Fast Wireless Charging: What You Need to Know
First off, there are two different types of wireless charging. If you buy the wrong charging pad or your new car does not support the correct type, it will not work on some devices. It has Qi Wireless Charging and PMA Wireless Charging Standard. However, all wireless charging options will work, as Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ both support them. Any device after Galaxy S6 will work in both types.
This takes the guesswork out of buying a charging pad and keeps everything running smoothly. Many Starbuck locations have PMA chargers that will work, but at slower speeds than Samsung’s own Fast Wireless Charging pads.
How does it work
Phone owners can drop your phone onto a wireless charging pad instead of plugging it in. When the two surfaces touch each other, it starts charging instantly. Even though the charger is plugged in, there is no cable going to your phone.
Drop it on the wireless charging pad and it will charge, then pick it up and go with a full battery. Wireless charging used to be slow, taking around 3-4 hours to fully charge a device. A regular wired charger (like the one in the box) will fully charge your device to 100% in less than 95 minutes. However, new Fast Wireless Charger pads makes it extremely fast.
Samsung Fast Wireless Charger
With the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung introduced fast wireless charging. This has increased power and speed by 1.4x and now Qi Wireless charging pads will juice 15w instead of 10w. It makes wireless charging faster than ever before.
Using a “fast” charger, the Galaxy S8 charges 50 minutes faster than previous wireless charging methods. It takes longer than the charger in the box, but not by much. Below is a video showing this feature on the Galaxy Note 5 a few years ago and it works the same way on the new Galaxy S8 and S8+.
