There are also various small shops that can do the job. Within hours, Best Buy installed the DroneMobile and CompuStar Starter and its security system, and then guided us on how to use the key fob and app.

The DroneMobile app works great and the latest version is really easy to use. I was testing it on iPhone and on my Apple Watch. With the app, I can remotely start my car from anywhere, which came in really handy during the Polar Vortex, which sent well-sub-zero temperatures in Ohio. With DroneMobile, I was able to warm up my car and get it ready for the road, and also monitor my battery level and interior temperature using the car status feature.

I like the Apple Watch app for DroneMobile. Easy to use, reliable and yet another way I can control the car. I’d love to see a Siri control added to the mix.

For the last few months of testing, I used the app to unlock my car with the keys locked inside. While I was having the bodywork done, the store called and asked me to bring a spare key. Instead of wasting half an hour, I was able to open the app and unlock my car from the warmth of a cafe miles away.

I still like being able to use my keyless entry and unlock my doors with my regular key fob while still using the security system. The only catch of the security system is that if I use keyless entry and enter through the back door first, the alarm goes off. This isn’t a big deal as I normally go into the driver’s door or unlock the car with the app or my key fob.

The app is very easy to use and well organized. Lock, unlock and launch controls are easy to use, but also designed to never accidentally activate them. Tap on Controls option and then long press to lock, unlock or start. On iPhone, you get haptic feedback when you complete a start or stop.

While I don’t need to track my car’s location often, it would be a great option if I shared it with a young driver because I could see where they were and get alerts if they exceeded a certain speed limit. You can even set geofence alerts and get curfew alerts.

Inside the DroneMobile app, you can create more users and share access with other drivers so that everyone in the family can use these features. Every driver will still need a key to drive, but anyone you give access to can lock, unlock and start the car.

I regularly use the car status feature, which allows me to check the battery level and interior temperature in cold weather.

You can configure alerts in the app to receive an alert when the optional security system is enabled; this lets you know if something happened to your car when you park your car on the street or in a public place.
