After months of waiting and countless delays, on July 1st, the popular Verizon Motorola DROID Turbo finally received the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. Along with it came a brand new interface, tons of changes and new features, as well as multiple bugs that annoyed its owners.
Motorola’s DROID Turbo was released just a few weeks before Google released Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it got stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat for a long, long time. Users were looking forward to it, and it finally arrived earlier this month.
However, Android 5.1 Lollipop has finally arrived, bringing a whole new experience to DROID Turbo that most owners enjoy but has had its fair share of issues. When Android 5.1 Lollipop arrived for DROID Turbo owners, they got a completely overhauled and completely new interface with Google’s material design, new features, a modified notification popup and lock screen, VoLTE HD calling features, and more.
That said, we’ve heard horror stories of pretty bad battery life, inability to send and receive MMS messages, WiFi problems, disconnections, and even Turbo Charge not charging as fast as it used to.
We are not sure exactly what it is and each user has different results. While many of them are getting positive results after the update, there are numerous owners complaining about the update. However, early this morning on July 21, Verizon started rolling out another update. The changelog doesn’t mention anything and basically summarizes the big Lollipop update rather than what’s new in this minor maintenance update.
However, since the latest update has started hitting the smartphones of its owners today, we can confirm that it has fixed many issues faced by users. Our inbox received more than a few users claiming that today’s update fixed the MMS issue, improved battery life, and other minor improvements. However, one user reported that the screen has reached maximum brightness, so it’s something to watch out for.
Verizon advises all DROID Turbo owners to accept the over-the-air update released today; this is either a major update to Android 5.1 Lollipop or a small 29mb file with some behind-the-scenes changes as mentioned above.
