Android: This new malware can take your smartphone hostage, here’s how to avoid it

Bad news for Android smartphone owners. Cybersecurity firm CloudSEK has discovered a new malware called Damm. a major threat to users who are not very careful when downloading new appson the Google Play Store or by other means.

Indeed, the malware seems to infect phones via APK files or the installation of Psiphon, Boulders, and Currency Pro apps. According to CloudSEK report, Daam malware an advanced ability to avoid detection by antivirus applicationsand therefore it is not easy to get rid of it.

Daam malware wants to steal all your data

According to experts, this new malware record phone calls, VoIP calls and play contacts and files from infected device. Moreover, the malware can even steal data about newly added contacts. All stolen data is then sent back to a command and control server run by the hackers behind the malware.

Worse still, the Daam malware uses the AES encryption algorithm. Encrypt all files on infected android smartphone without user permissionmaking it ruthless ransomware. At the same time, the malware can change the password or PIN of the device, thus completely locking the user from their device.

Avoiding this is simple, just be careful when downloading apps, avoid sideloading (downloading APKs) and stick with official Android app stores. Don’t forget to read the reviews and check the app’s rating before installing, as rogue apps sometimes manage to pass Google’s security checks. Just a week ago, Google banned 36 infected apps from the Play Store.
