Google is very careful when it comes to apps in the Play Store, but sometimes some scams leak through the cracks. Such is the case with these four apps spotted by Malewarebyte. It has been downloaded over a million times. If this is your case, remove it immediately.
All four of these apps are the work of a developer called “Mobile apps Group”. These are software that seem perfectly normal and useful in everyday life: Bluetooth Auto Connect, Bluetooth Wi-fi USB Driver, Mobile Transfer Smart Switch and Bluetooth App Sender.
Apps that steal your data
Make no mistake, these are just traps. Once launched, these apps steal all your personal data and download ads without your knowledge. As Malewarebytes points out, they ship HiddenAds, a malware that activates a few days after first boot. Feel free to open Chrome in secondary tabs to download ads Even when your smartphone is locked.
Also, this malware downloads an ad that warns you that your smartphone has been sealed by a virus and you should download a (fake) antivirus immediately. Ironic. In short, if you see these apps in the Store, run away! Sorry if you already downloaded them, remove them as soon as possible and change your passwords, You can never be too careful.
The fact that a million people are already trapped is alarming, because it shows. Google is reacting slowly to protect its customers. This large number of downloads also helps them trap more victims.
