Since malware is abundant on Android, a few years ago Google installed the Play Protection service, a type of antivirus that detects suspicious applications and encourages the user to uninstall them. Thus, the app scans the smartphone for possible threats even in native applications that are available on the device by default. This can lead to some pretty funny situations.
For several days, many Samsung smartphone users have received an alert from Google Play Protection informing them that a threat has reached the system. Problem: The threats in question are none other than Samsung apps. In fact, the antivirus suddenly started thinking that Samsung Wallet and, in some cases, Samsung Messages were malware that needed to be removed urgently.
Don’t panic, Samsung Wallet is not malware
The service then declares that it has detected an application “threatening”Samsung Wallet is accused in most cases of collecting personal data such as SMS, call history, photos and other audio recordings. Faced with the mass posting of confused messages on support forums, Samsung eventually reassured the crowd by explaining that this was an error on the part of Google.
“The phenomenon of a device being flagged as a malicious app with a pop-up stating that there is a security issue when using the Samsung Messages app has been confirmed to be caused by a temporary malfunction in the Google server. The application has been restored and can be used normally.”
If you are a victim, here is how to fix the problem:
- open them Settings on your Samsung smartphone
- Go to section Application
- Tap the context menu (three dots) in the upper right corner of your screen
- choose Reset preferences later Reset
