Android 12: Google will add a trash can to the computer

With Android 11, Google added a hidden Recycle Bin to the mobile operating system. When using an app optimized for Android 11, it is possible to trash files instead of permanently deleting them. Therefore, applications can recover accidentally deleted files upon users’ request.

But the user cannot access list of all deleted documents from your Android smartphone. On computer, the trash icon allows you to find any photos, videos or files deleted from the hard drive. After all, Android 11’s garbage system was quite limited compared to what we found on Windows or Mac, for example.

A true Windows-style trash bin in Android 12

Google will now integrate with Android 12 a user-accessible trash can in just a few clicks. While digging into the code for the latest Android 12 beta, our colleagues at XDA Developers discovered a hidden Trash folder in the Files by Google app. This Trash can be accessed by going to Settings, then App Storage.

This trash bin can directly display the weight of all deleted items from the smartphone. As on the computer, it is possible to: empty trashand to permanently delete all documents instantly. The data cannot be recovered by the corresponding applications later. However, it is still possible to recover deleted photos or files on Android.

This option is not integrated into the Android system but Files app from Google. In effect, this new feature is expected to eventually reach smartphones running Android 11 or earlier. As XDA points out, Google is supposed to introduce this new feature during the launch of the final version of Android 12, which is scheduled for September 2021. However, not all options in development are always integrated into the stable version. Between now and September, Google could still change its mind. We will tell you more as soon as possible.
