Google Assistant had a lot to say at Google’s annual IO developer event this year. In fact, he can now say something with six new voices. One of them is the own voice of popular musician John Legend.

Your Google Home will respond with “Thanks for asking nicely” and then issue the command. This summer, you’ll be able to enable “please honey” on any Google Home or third-party smart speaker.

Google Home and Assistant Routines

Earlier this year, Google launched Routines for Assistant. The idea is that one command allows your Assistant or Google Home to multitask at once. A More Talkative Assistant

If you’re like me, you hate to use the custom word “OK, Google” or “Hey, Google” over and over to interact with your Assistant or smart speakers. That’s why Google made a big change to make chats easier, smoother and more conversational.

Google Assistant will continue to listen for up to 8 seconds after you give a command. That way, you don’t have to constantly repeat the Ok Google keyword. The assistant will understand that you are talking to him with someone else and will respond accordingly. We hear that this will be available on all devices in the coming weeks.

Order Food with Google Assistant

Soon, you’ll be able to order takeout or delivery from within the Google Assistant. Better still, the app will usually remember what you ordered and recommend it to you, making the whole process easy and quick.

We’ve been able to order certain items for a while, but this takes it a step further. Offering you the option of takeout or delivery and remembering popular items. Then partners like Starbucks will integrate with Assistant to make everything easier.

“Ok Google, place my usual order from Starbucks.” The Assistant will launch the Starbucks app, place your usual order, then give you a confirmation and pickup time.

More Device Support

In closing, Google Assistant and Google Home are getting support for many more smart home devices. Currently it can control lights, thermostats, your fridge and a few other things. In the future, you will be able to do much more with much more.

Now, seven new device types are added to the native controls in Assistant. These seven devices are: air conditioning units, air cleaners, coffee makers, fans, water heaters, ovens and sprinklers. The only thing I really care about here is being able to say “Ok Google, have my coffee in 10 minutes” to get some morning off.

Previously, air conditioning units were listed as thermostats in the Google Home app, but that’s about to change. This gives users and developers more options with these seven types of devices. This gives us direct integration for smarter home products which makes everything easier.
