Residents of the Himmelsberg district experienced a real hell for months. Mobile networks became inaccessible and Wi-Fi networks in the area were heavily interrupted. The reason for the failures is quite surprising, to say the least: man believed to have electrosensitivity used jammer his home.
According to the National Frequency Agency (ANFR), the man used the devices to disrupt 2G, 3G, 4G and even 5G communications from the relay antenna located just a few hundred meters from his home.
At the crime scene, authorities discovered a man who claimed to be suffering from electrosensitivity, an increased sensitivity to electromagnetic waves and electric fields. Not only did the man use jammers to shield himself from the waves, he also He covered his entire house with foil.
The Sarreguemines court eventually tried the man for illegal possession of such an object. It is illegal to own a wave jammer and punishable by six months’ imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 euros. In the end, the latter did not receive any punishment, although he made several repetitions, as the judge did not pursue his intention to disturb the public order.
Protecting yourself from the waves with a jammer is a bad idea.
The paradox is that it’s not really possible to protect yourself from the waves of surrounding networks using a jammer. ANFR remembers this wave jammers emit much more waves than the useful networks the individual is trying to block.
Also, keep in mind that the range of jammers is often much wider than vendors suggest; this means that their use can seriously disturb your neighbors several hundred meters away. To the dismay of authorities, jammers also appear to be proliferating in the area.
