Samsung calls it a phone and a tablet, and it’s not a phablet like the Galaxy Note 9. This is a new type of device that will definitely attract attention. Samsung is one of the first to market with a foldable screen, and you’ll pay dearly for it if you want it. It’s definitely different from the Galaxy S10.
How Does the Samsung Galaxy Fold Screen Work?
The Samsung Galaxy Fold has a 7.3-inch foldable internal display, which Samsung calls the Infinity Flex Display. This internal screen folds down the middle to allow for a tablet-sized display in a phone-sized body. This is paired with the 4.6 inch HD+ display on the front of the phone.
The internal screen is 1536 x 2152 resolution and the external resolution is 840 x 1960. While you may not be looking at the 4K display, this is more about foldability and the wow factor of pulling a 7.3-inch phone out of your pocket.
On the built-in screen, you can take advantage of the larger screen with the Multi-Active Window feature that allows you to use three applications at the same time. This means you can text, browse the web, and watch a YouTube video at the same time. With App Continuity, apps switch between the front screen and the foldable screen as you turn the device on and off. Yep, both screens have a notch to deal with on your expensive phone.
Samsung Galaxy Fold Price
The Samsung Galaxy Fold starts at $1,980 for the 512GB version. Expect a healthy premium for all additional versions with 5G. You can get this on a payment plan at your carrier to split payments into something more manageable.
Samsung Galaxy Fold Carriers
The Samsung Galaxy Fold is only coming to a few carriers initially, at least when it launches in the US, you’ll be able to buy the Galaxy Fold via AT&T or T-Mobile. You can buy an unlocked one, but that hasn’t been mentioned yet, and it’s unclear whether you can get one from AT&T or T-Mobile and use it on Verizon or any other carrier.
Samsung Galaxy Fold Release Date
The Samsung Galaxy Fold release date is in the second quarter of 2019. This is a real phone that you can buy, buy and use this year. This is not a concept. The official release date is currently listed as April 26. This is for LTE version. You may have to wait longer to buy the 5G Galaxy Fold.
