5 Things to Expect from the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop Release

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update gaining momentum in countries around the world, we continue to be flooded with questions about its rollout. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update making significant moves, we would like to make some Lollipop release predictions to help set the expectations of future Galaxy Note 3 users.

Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop To Be Released In May

It’s clear that Samsung has finally fixed the issues and rolled out the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update in full force. For example, today Samsung released the latest Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update in the United States. US Cellular’s update may be the latest in the United States, but it’s certainly not the last of the grand scheme.

Don’t expect Samsung to slow down its launch next month. Yes, there will be some deviations, but we expect a lot of people to migrate from Android 4.4 KitKat to Android 5.0 Lollipop next month.

If you have a carrier-branded model, you’ll want to keep an eye out for your carrier’s information. If you’re using an unbranded model, you’ll want to be careful with your update. Don’t expect Samsung to pass on any concrete or specific details for individual Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop releases.

Galaxy Note 3 Neo Lollipop Edition

Samsung in France Galaxy Note 3 confirms Neo Lollipop version so it must come at some point down the road. Our best guess is that it will finally start rolling out soon.

The company hasn’t set a specific time frame for the release, but with the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update hitting major markets and Lollipop updates rolling out to other niche variants like the Galaxy S4 Active, it should only be a matter of time. Samsung has made the Galaxy Note 3 Neo Lollipop working.

We can’t predict the exact date, but our best guess is that it will launch in May or June. Given the progress Samsung has made with the other Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop release, we didn’t expect anything worse than this.

Don’t Expect the Presentation to End Soon

While the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop release is making big strides, don’t expect it to end anytime soon.

Samsung’s Android updates can take six months or more to complete, and that seems to be the path the Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop update took. While we’ve seen a number of updates roll out, we haven’t seen a lot of information pop up in key regions like Australia. optus, vodafone and Telstra in Australia is keeping quiet about its Galaxy Note 3 plans. And that silence probably means a bit of a wait for users.

Now that may change soon, but we often see these carriers release details after the software has been put to testing. The test is unpredictable and can take several weeks. Sometimes it can even take a few months. While it would be nice to see everyone getting their Galaxy Note 3 updates in May or June, that’s unrealistic at this point.

The most striking sign is that some carriers we are still pushing Android 4.4 KitKat Updates to Galaxy Note 3 variants. Android 4.4 KitKat started rolling out for the Galaxy Note 3 over a year ago.

Bug Fix Updates

We have heard about a number of Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop issues in the days since its release. Given that Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop issues are clearly an issue for many Note 3 users, we expect US carriers and carriers around the world to send bug fix updates to the device. It’s impossible to say that bugfix updates usually pop up out of the blue, but we wouldn’t be surprised if most carriers release post-Lollipop bugfix updates a few months after the initial release.

Bugfix updates like major updates should go through the testing process, and carriers like Verizon will want to make sure that built-in fixes actually fix issues. This takes time.

Cloudy Future

Don’t expect Samsung to clean up the Galaxy Note 3’s software future anytime soon. Samsung usually doesn’t talk about new updates until they’re ready to roll them out. So, since Android 5.1 is still in development and not a successor to Android 5.0 Lollipop, you’ll have to settle for Android 5.0.1.

Some to believe Android 5.0 could be the last major update for the Galaxy Note 3. This is entirely possible. The Galaxy Note 3 is a widely adopted smartphone, but Samsung has shown no willingness to offer it beyond the two-year mark. Sure, we’ve seen occasional bug fixes, but we usually don’t see major updates roll out after a device has passed two years. Galaxy Note 3 is entering two on September.

Once you get Android 5.0 Lollipop on your device, this will probably be the case for a while. So get used to it and keep your fingers crossed. Galaxy Note 3 is a powerful device but there is no guarantee that it will surpass Android 5.0.
