5 New Samsung Galaxy Android 5.1 Release Details

A number of new Samsung Galaxy Android 5.1 release details have surfaced today as Samsung tries to update its devices with the latest version of Google’s Android Lollipop operating system.

For one, it looks like Samsung’s Android 5.1 update will bring more than just Guest Mode to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The publication claims that Samsung will make improvements to its cameras with new features. These new features have not been detailed but may have something to do with Google’s full camera API support. If true, we could see that the update brings new features like control over shutter speed.

We recently discovered Android 5.1 listing on Samsung’s Developer portal outlines fixes for the company’s camera software. This is also the only official “confirmation” we can trace (if you can call it that). Everything else lives in the rumor mill, at least right now.

It looks like these features will make their way to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, but it’s unclear if they’ll make their way to other older phones or tablets. Samsung often brings new features to older devices, but nothing has been confirmed for top flagships like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Note Edge.

However, it looks like these new features will make their way to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, a device currently known by the codename Project Noble. It is unclear whether the Galaxy Note 5 will run Android 5.1.1 or another version of Android.

It looks like the update will be based on Google’s Android 5.1.1 update rather than the Android 5.1 update. Android 5.1.1 is a bug fix update currently available to Nexus users that provides a host of major fixes. It will help stabilize Samsung’s upcoming Android 5.1 Lollipop updates for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

The site claims that the Android 5.1.1 update that leaked to a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge user a few days ago was not the finished version of the software and has since been withdrawn. This update did not include these new camera features and SamMobile says an old Android 5.1.1 ROM they have doesn’t include them either. Given that the features are yet to be revealed, it’s safe to assume that these updates are still a way out of a general release.

Samsung’s first Android 5.1 update may not be for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Google and Samsung reportedly preparing A Galaxy S4 Android 5.1 update for the Google Play Edition version of the device. Galaxy S4 GPE was one of the first GPE devices to get Android 5.0 Lollipop but will be one of the last devices to get Android 5.1 Lollipop. It’s entirely possible that it will get Android 5.1.1 instead of Android 5.1, but that has yet to be confirmed.
