Gemini has been available in France since the beginning of June. You may have already had the opportunity to test it and if so, you may regret the absence of certain features. Moreover, when you configure Gemini to be your default voice assistant, the application warns you that certain Google Assistant functions are not currently accessible. This was especially true for routines, which are very practical to automate a series of tasks with our connected objects.
The good news is that Google took advantage of the launch of the Pixel 9 to improve Gemini and finally integrated the famous routines into the app. It becomes possible to configure and manage the ones that already exist. It should be noted that routines are not (yet) specific to Gemini, but are an addition to the Google Assistant in Gemini. When you ask Gemini for a routine, it will actually launch the Google Assistant to execute it.
In Gemini, routines are partially accepted
First of all, routines on Gemini are not 100% functional. Users face many limitations, such as not being able to activate routines with a command typed on the keyboard, or configuring them to automatically activate at a specific time or when you leave or arrive at a specific location. There are also no shortcuts on the home screen.
The actions themselves are still limited. Gemini can’t play audio content (music, radio, or podcasts), share fitness and sleep stats, or write poetry or quotes. Hopefully Google will find a solution to all of these issues soon. In the meantime, if you use Routines a lot, it’s best to keep Google Assistant as the default.
To configure and manage your routines from Gemini, go to the app settings and then Google Assistant Features on Gemini. Then go to the last section displayed, Routinesto be directed to an interface you know well: the Google Assistant interface.
