Technology is advancing rapidly, opening up new possibilities for entertainment and digital interaction, especially with electronic games. However, with this expansion, ethical and social challenges also arise.

This week, Google found itself at the center of a controversy involving a game called “Slavery Simulator,” which allowed players to carry out acts of punishment and torture specifically targeting black people.

This discovery sparked outrage among Internet users, who shared images of the game and comments about it. Faced with strong criticism and pressure from the public, Google made the decision to take the app offline.

What was the purpose of the game ‘Slavery Simulator’?

The game, which was available in the Google app store, gave players the chance to act as “owners” of enslaved people. In this way, the user could choose how they would behave: tyrant or liberator.

If you chose to be a tyrannical owner, the player would have missions to prevent the escape of the enslaved and even rebellions. If you chose to be a liberator, the player would need to fight for their freedom until they reached abolition.

In addition, among the gameplay options, the user could attack and torture the characters. Developed by Magnus Games, the game already had more than a thousand downloads.

Among the comments from players, many of them complained about the game having few options for forms of aggression.

Magnus Games reported that it developed the game for the entertainment of users, but that it condemns real slavery. “Slavery Simulator” is still on the Play Store, but can no longer be downloaded. However, those who already had the app on their phones can continue using it.

After this negative repercussion, deputy Orlando Silva, from PCdoB-SP, declared on his social networks that he will file a complaint with the Public Ministry for the crime of racism.

“We will file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the crime of RACISM and we will take the case to its ultimate consequences, preferably the arrest of those responsible”, wrote the deputy on Twitter.

“The very existence of something so bizarre available on platforms shows the URGENCY of regulating the digital environment.”
