Outlook: Microsoft secretly adds ads to Android and iOS app

While Outlook users have had to deal with a particularly annoying display bug recently, ads also land in inboxes. In fact, Microsoft has started secretly adding ads to the Android and iOS mobile version of Outlook.

As a reminder, the Outlook app offers users two options to organize their inbox:

• Group all emails in one box
• or choose to choose A box with two tabs, Priority and Other

Until now ads were placed in the “Other” tab for free users, but recently Microsoft also decided to shift them to a single inbox (without two tabs).

Ads are invading the Outlook mobile app

This change has been implemented over the last few months and essentially means that free Outlook users will no longer be able to avoid ads. Whatever mode is used, there will be adsAt the top of your other tab or at the top of your single inbox.

This change was confirmed to our colleagues by Microsoft on: Border : “For free Outlook users, ads appear in their inbox and they can choose to enable the “Focused Inbox” feature if they want to see ads only in the More tab. Redmond firm spokesperson Caitlin Roulston explains in an official press release:

Here’s where the problem is These ads look exactly like classic emailsLike Microsoft and Google displaying ads in the web versions of Outlook and Gmail. When you accidentally open one, you will be automatically redirected to advertising content via the in-app browser. Without surprise, Many users expressed their dissatisfaction on Twitter and Reddit, one-star reviews increased on the application’s page on the App Store. The good thing is that Microsoft announced the way to avoid these ads in the mobile version of Outlook: Choose a Microsoft 365 subscription.
