WhatsApp regularly tests new features. The most significant recent release is undoubtedly the ability to modify messages after sending, an option already available on many rival messaging services. This is not the only point where the Meta implementation lags. In fact, although nicknames have been installed on other messaging services long ago, WhatsApp is still reluctant to integrate them into its own application.
However, this may change very soon. For the first time, the information comes directly from the WABetaInfo site, which uses version 2.23.11.15, the latest beta to date. In the latter, WhatsApp allows users to choose a nickname, as you can see in the image below. This will be preceded by an @ sign as tradition requires.

To do this, you will need to go to the Profile tab of the app to access the option. We think this pseudonym will allow users to meet before starting a chat, which will greatly increase privacy within the ecosystem. In fact, for now, the person’s number is absolutely necessary to be able to add them to your contacts.
With this feature, WhatsApp may aim to increase the security and anonymity of its users, like other recent updates, such as the ability to lock conversations with a password. However, it has not yet been determined for what purpose the application reserves this new function. For example, it can only pertain to group conversations, which will make it easier to scroll through messages.
