WhatsApp will soon protect your conversations on all your devices, here’s how

According to a report by WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp updates, Meta is working on new features that will make it safer and more useful for users using multiple devices. The application will develop especially a chat lock feature to sync across different devices, as well as a username feature that will allow users to chat without sharing their phone number.

The Chat Lock feature will allow users to protect their chats with their phone’s passcode, Face ID, fingerprint or passcode. This feature is already available on Android and iOS devices but does not work on the web, Windows and macOS versions of WhatsApp.

Locked conversations come to all your devices

The report states that WhatsApp is working on a sync feature that will soon enable the chat lock feature on all connected devices, so users can have the same level of security on every device they use.

Unfortunately, users will have to wait for WhatsApp to be available with an update that may come later this year. The function will obviously be optional.

The report also states that WhatsApp continues to work on adding username support to the application. This feature will allow users to create a unique username that they can use to chat with other people without having to share their phone number. In this way, users will be able to communicate more easily with strangers or people they do not want to share their personal information with.

The username feature is also under development and is not yet ready for general use. Users will be able to create their username in the app’s profile settings and will still need to use their phone number for authentication purposes. This feature will also be compatible with the “multi-device” option, which allows users to use WhatsApp on up to four devices simultaneously.
