As you know, Spotify has been waging a relentless fight against Apple for years. It all started four years ago, when the streaming service filed a complaint with the European Commission against the Apple brand. He specifically stated thatApple preferred Apple Music over other competitors thanks to the App Store’s terms of service.

In 2021, the European Commission ruled in favor of Spotify, acknowledging the abuse of Apple’s dominant position. But the streaming service is in for a big treat, thanks to the Digital Markets Act coming into force on March 7, new European legislation for digital markets. New big victory against the Cupertino company.

Spotify will finally integrate in-app purchases on iPhone

Until this date, Spotify will finally be able to offer in-app purchases through its own system on iOS to all European users. “Your Spotify is about to get better with the introduction of the Digital Markets Act, which means more opportunities for developers and creators everywhere.” the Swedish company wrote in an official blog post.

Concretely and thanks to DMA, Spotify will be able to: to view complete information about the prices of different subscriptions, about current/upcoming promotions and payment options available to users (which was not the case until now). Users will also be able to subscribe to a subscription (or change their offer), Purchase music or audiobooks directly from the app.“All this can be done without the mandatory tax burden of around 30% imposed by Apple and prohibited by the DMA.” Adds Spotify.

Users will also be able to download other brand apps, such as Spotify for Artists and Spotify for Podcasters, directly from the company’s website rather than from the App Store. “It should be this easy for every Spotify customer around the world. But if you live outside of certain markets, you’ll continue to face frustrating hurdles due to Apple’s ridiculous rules. That’s why developers around the world continue to call on other governments to pass their own laws like the DMA.” Spotify is ending.
