Virtual reality is a technology that can transport you to different worlds and make you feel like you’re really there. But one of the difficulties is to know How to navigate these virtual environments without breaking immersion. You don’t want to sit on your couch while your avatar is running or flying because that could make some users sick.
For this reason, many companies have developed solutions that enable natural and realistic movements in virtual reality, such as treadmills, shoes or suits. But these solutions often have drawbacks: are expensive, cumbersome, noisy, or limited to one person. Disney has therefore announced its own solution, and it looks promising, to say the least.
HoloTile can then create a large and homogeneous floor surface. can accommodate an unlimited number of people who can walk, run or dance in virtual realitywithout hitting each other or walls. The floor can also adapt to the shape and size of the room and be expanded or reduced as needed.
According to Smoot, HoloTile could allow people to explore different places together in VR or allow performers to move and dance on stage in new ways. However, HoloTile is a technology that is still in the research project phase and Therefore, we do not yet know when and where it will be available to the public.
