The artificial intelligence war begins! While ChatGPT represents the reference in this field today, Google decided to counterattack with Gemini. It is a “Large Language Model” (LLM), so it is an AI that can understand and reason about what it sees in real time. Through a stunning video, the Mountain View firm shows us its capabilities.
Gemini is an artificial intelligence that can recognize what it sees in real time. For example, the video shows us hands drawing a duck, and the AI instantly knows what is in front of its “eyes” and provides precise details. That’s not all, because for example create on-demand games (get to know countries by emojis here), understand the context of an image, and even dive into cultural references! For example, when Gemini sees a video of a man impersonating Neo, she immediately recognizes it as a reference to The Matrix.
Gemini, the artificial intelligence that wants to shake up the market
Gemini doesn’t want to be just another AI on the market, But what Google promises is a real revolution. In the MMLU test, which compares this to human abilities, it almost systematically outperforms humans. Google also published a benchmark in which Gemini mocks ChatGPT.
Three Gemini models are offered. Ultra, which is the most advanced, Pro, which is slightly lower, and Nano, which does not require connectivity and can be sufficient for simple tasks. The Mountain View firm didn’t wait to release its AI, as it’s already integrated into Bard and Pixel 8 Pro… but not in Europe yetWhere it needs to go through the GDPR mill.
Google explains on its blog that it designed Gemini as follows: A tool that can help us in daily life, to adapt to our needs and to be useful to everyone, at any time, in any situation. Such a powerful tool, capable of reasoning on its own and understanding what it sees, could be extremely effective and even signal a revolution. As always with such impressive new technology, skepticism, even apprehension, can prevail. It will take time to learn to master this tool, to understand its limits, its characteristics, and the abuses it can cause.
