Who hasn’t tried to find an old message by typing in a word you vaguely remember using, and ended up with an arms-length list of potential results? And we’ll spend the next 10 minutes desperately trying to find the Grail. All messaging services are experiencing this problem to a greater or lesser extent, and WhatsApp may have found a solution to this as well.
As usual, the site WABetaInfo has delved into the latest beta version of the Android app to find the future new features Meta has in store for us. There is a new filter for searching for messages in version 2.23.24.16 of the application. The latter takes the form of a calendar from which it is possible to select the date on which the message in question will be sent.
WhatsApp will let you search messages by date
The functionality takes the form of a small calendar icon placed to the right of the search bar. Therefore, by clicking on it, it is possible to select the date on which you think you received or sent the desired message. Note that it is absolutely not possible to configure a start and end date for the search. So you will need to make sure the day is exact to hope to find the message.
Despite this limitation, this feature will make searching for messages much easier. If it will quickly become useless for conversations that are several years old, it will be extremely sensitive for conversations that are more recent. According to WABetaInfo, this new filter is expected to arrive in a stable version of WhatsApp as of the next update, so it won’t take too long.
