Recent months have seen the arrival of the contactless payment system in France. First implemented on smartphones with Wallet-type applications (wallet), we can still see it today. new credit cards equipped with this new NFC technology. However, is it really safe? Here’s an app that will show you the opposite and might just as well scare banks, I named it: Paycard reader !
The NFC chip was originally placed to facilitate file sharing. This system, which is very simple and fast, soon became a keyword for technology enthusiasts and led to the invention of contactless payment thanks to its smartphone. Few stores are equipped with it, but this innovation is seen in completely new bank cards. Is it something good or bad?
NFC is fine on paper but what does it look like in reality?
It is worth emphasizing thatTo date, hacking a bank card equipped with the NFC system is easier than hacking a bank account on the Internet.. We already had to take care of the security of our data on our smartphones, but we also had to be careful with the Cloud, NFC today! At least, that’s what various reports and various videos prove to us. As a matter of fact, this chip placed on our cards transmits data continuously. On the street, on the subway, on the bus…etc. Unfortunately for us, this data can be easily tracked and collected.
We saw right away that a device could do this kind of thing, but it was still very complex. Well, know that nowadays a smartphone app as easy to use as Candy Crush Saga can let you collect a lot of data with a simple touch. Isn’t it abnormal?
Anyone with a simple smartphone with the Paycardreader app installed will be able to:
- Collect your credit card number
- Collect cardholder name
- Get expiration date
- Know the last amounts of your last transactions
Can the NFC chip be blocked from transmitting?
Yes ! To prevent your personal data from falling into the hands of any malicious strangers, you can adopt one of the following solutions:
- Wrap your debit card in aluminum foil
- Protect your card in a box provided for this purpose
- Call your bank to request deactivation of the NFC chip
- Watch video tutorials to remove it yourself (risky)
- Use aluminum card box
Considering that your bank information is never secure, it is up to you to adopt the right solution. It is important to note that this app was quickly removed from the PlayStore., however, it is still possible to find the source folder to get it! While Paycardreader is no longer officially available, it certainly won’t be long before we see a new app released.
