Google Play Store: Family section now available

Google is also considering families with children, especially those equipped with Android tablets or smartphones, by opening a brand new category in the Google Play Store. Called “Family”, it will provide you with ideal apps for your little ones, thus avoiding anything that might shock them.

This new category therefore makes it possible to find everything the family needs for fun. This gives parents the opportunity to better choose from the best games and apps for their kids, avoiding the global search of the Google Play Store. As a bonus, it’s even possible to sort by age category, so it will be impossible for parents to download a game or an app intended for an older audience.

With characters like Dora the Explorer, Barbie, LEGO games and even characters from the Disney universe, kids will have no trouble choosing who they want to play with. There is something for every taste.

As with the rest of the Play Store, it’s possible to preview content such as movies, books and even music about the kid’s favorite character. This way, kids will be able to discover more about their favorite characters without having to find themselves confronted with a variety of inappropriate content.

The family category can also be used by developers to advertise. Indeed, if an app is classified in this category, it can be included in its promotion. This means families can feel safe and then consider downloading.

Still, Google states that developers expect app content to conform to age classification to integrate the Family category. The American giant, if the category is shown in the ad, has no control over the content of these ads.

All that’s left is to hope that the developers don’t come out with audacious advertisements for their Family apps. In such a situation, Google may feel embarrassed and have to review its policy.
