DROID Turbo Lollipop Release Details Reveal

As we move deeper into 2015, more and more users are plagued by the lack of information regarding the Motorola DROID Turbo Lollipop update. Verizon’s DROID Turbo was announced and launched in October, shortly after Google released its new Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Many devices have received Lollipop in the last few months, but DROID Turbo is still stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat. New rumors suggest that the update will finally arrive in June.

Android L was first announced as the successor to Android 4.4 KitKat during the company’s annual Google I/O developer event in June. Then in October, Google officially announced the full Android 5.0 Lollipop update, along with a new Nexus Player for the Nexus 6, Nexus 9 tablet and TV. Shortly after Motorola made some announcementsand were among the first to update smartphones.

Currently Motorola DROID Turbo is running almost stock version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat and has already seen a few updates from Verizon. We’ve heard for months that the DROID Turbo Lollipop update is coming soon and has yet to be revealed, but this week our first definitive release date has been revealed.

Reports and rumors about the update have been surfacing since December, but the device remains on Android 4.4 KitKat, while all other flagship phones including the Moto X have been updated to Android 5.0 or Android 5.1 Lollipop. That said, this week we got some key details on when it’s finally coming, as well as some new feature tips for the upcoming Moto X 2015.

Since December we’ve seen Android 5.0 Lollipop arrive for the Moto X, Moto G and many Samsung, HTC and LG devices. However, those with the impressive DROID Turbo were left on hold with no news from Google or Verizon.

That said, the DROID Turbo Android 5.1 Lollipop update is coming soon, and now we’re hearing that the release date target is mid-June. by the way with Droid-LifeA Verizon Engineer has been talking about the DROID Turbo Lollipop update, delays, and possible upcoming features, and revealed that DROID Turbo should get Android 5.1 Lollipop “mid-June.”

Jose Arturo, a Verizon Engineer who runs and tests software updates, sent a picture He reviewed DROID Turbo running Android 5.1 Lollipop on Google+ and answered many questions about the update. According to Arturo, a few minor bugs in Verizon’s VoLTE (HD-Voice calling) are the cause of the delay, and the software will be released after we fix a few bugs. It specifically states mid-June, but no exact release date has been announced by Verizon itself.

This is good news for DROID Turbo owners, but it’s also just a target date. It may be approved and released earlier by Verizon, or additional issues may arise causing further delays. As of now, it should arrive in mid-June.

It’s worth noting that the Verizon Nexus 6 is currently running the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop and has HD Voice calling enabled. This is one reason many DROID Turbo owners look forward to the update, but Arturo notes that Motorola’s team is much smaller and updates may not arrive as quickly as they used to.

All told, Verizon Motorola DROID Turbo Android 5.1 Lollipop update is still in testing phase, bugs fixed and performance improved and should arrive soon. Probably around mid-June, but we’ll update when we know more details or when Verizon makes an official announcement.
