As announced earlier this year, WhatsApp will soon have a new live location sharing feature. Increasingly popular in messaging apps and social networks, location sharing still regularly sparks controversy, as is Snapchat’s infamous Snap Map. But rest assured that WhatsApp’s geolocation will be less intrusive than Snapchat’s. In line with Messenger, the app’s 1 billion active users will indeed be able to choose how long and with whom they share their location.
WhatsApp: a simple and easy option to let you know where you are!
As with Facebook Messenger, location sharing via WhatsApp is a option to appear in chat. You can also choose to share your location with a contact. tape friend more than one person. Once selected, your contacts will see you on a map. The same card will list all the people who shared their position in the discussion.
As WhatsApp noted in its press release, location sharing is obviously real time. As soon as you move, your person will see it. As you can imagine, this option is especially practical if you are expected somewhere, at a birthday party, barbecue or parents, and you want your interlocutor to be informed of your progress. Ideal if you’re stuck in traffic or public transport.
Of course you will free to stop sharing from your location at any time. Likewise, you can choose to share your location for up to 8 hours in a row. In Messenger, this time limit is limited to one hour. The messaging app has made it clear that this feature is end-to-end encrypted to put users at ease. While this new option doesn’t revolutionize anything, it’s still very practical. Are you planning to use it?
