Google Assistant can finally recognize music like on the Pixel 2!

We already told you before the official announcement of Google Pixel 2, Google Assistant will finally be able to recognize music for you. All you have to do is ask him the question “ok Google, what is this music”. On October 4, during the famous Ask More conference that unveiled the Google Home Mini, for example, Google promised that this new option would arrive shortly. It is currently deployed to all compatible devices.

So how exactly does it work? If you’re in a noisy environment, in short, if your smartphone’s microphone is recording noise or ambient music, and Google Assistant is set as your preferred voice input, music recognition will offer itself. In your Google Assistant-specific navigation interface, you’ll see the “what is this music” bubble appear on its own, as you can discover in the screenshots described by our colleagues from 9to5Google at the end of the article.

Inspired by the streaming music recognition feature that already works on the new Pixel 2s, this option is far from revolutionary in its overall operation. The only innovation in its system: music recognition is launched and presented only when it detects sound. If no sound is detected, the recognition bubble will not appear. Your Google Assistant therefore listens and adapts to your environment. Pretty practical.

As you can imagine, it is possible to activate the command by asking your question aloud to Google Assistant. Once the music is identified, Google Assistant will present you with various listening options such as Youtube and Google Play. Just like in Shazam, there is also an information card with the name of the artist and the work in question. It won’t be long before this new option is now available to everyone! So if it’s not available to you yet, be patient!
