Moto X Pure Edition Android 6.0 Update Launches

In mid-November Motorola made several important announcements regarding Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for many of its devices. At the time, the company confirmed that the new 2015 Moto X Pure Edition Android 6.0 update is coming soon and that’s it. Today, however, the update has officially launched and we have all the details below.

Last month Motorola surpassed most other manufacturers in the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the successor to Android 5.1 Lollipop, but only on older devices and non-US devices released in 2014. Like Moto X 2nd Gen and Moto G. Those who own the latest 2015 3rd Gen Moto X Pure Edition will be happy to know that their next device is coming.

Motorola has confirmed that multiple phones will be updated to Google’s latest software, including the new Moto X Pure Edition. And although we’ve seen early test reports, the official final testing phase continues this week. It’s called the soak test, which is the final stage before shipping the update to all owners in the United States.

Approved by multiple people reports Judging from tips on the web and in our inbox, Motorola has truly launched the final software soak test for Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the new Moto X Pure Edition. Motorola does what’s called a “soak test” where selected members who are part of the Motorola Feedback Network allow them to test the final software. These are not employees, but regular users who signed up for the program through Motorola forums.

Feedback members test the latest versions of the software days or weeks before the actual update. This is Motorola’s last line of defense and final round of testing before a software update becomes available globally or in full. This ensures real-world usage and updates are seamless, bug-free, and available to all owners.

Last week Motorola opened invitations for the Moto X Pure Edition Marshmallow soak test, and today the update is rolling out. This means that those who own the 2015 Moto X should receive a notification to accept the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update.

Usually soak tests take 48-72 hours to complete and then normal update reaches all owners within 5-7 days after the start of the soak test. That means all unlocked Moto X Pure Edition owners will be able to see Android 6.0 Marshmallow over the weekend, this weekend or Monday.

That’s of course, but only if everything goes as planned and Motorola can’t find any last minute issues with the software version. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is a big one, even if most of the changes aren’t visual. The link above goes over everything new, but most of it is not easily noticed at first glance.

The Moto X Pure Edition update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow will bring many new features and changes. Battery life has been significantly improved with a feature called Doze, there are better performance, better security, better voice controls, app permission controls, Google Now on Tap and much more. The update may not seem like much at first, but Marshmallow is a big update under the hood and for Android as a whole.

If all goes well, 2015 Moto X Pure Edition owners can expect the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update within the next week. We hear there is a 700MB update, so WiFi connection is recommended. Once approved, it will reach all Pure Edition owners whether the phone is being used on T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon or any other carrier for that matter.
