Google Lens has arrived in France: how do you recognize objects with your camera?
Originally reserved for the Google Pixel 2, Google Lens has finally landed on Android smartphones. For a few days, French users have been claiming: the vehicle is deployed in France On LG, Motorola, Xiaomi, Sony Mobile, HMD/Nokia, Transsion, TCL, OnePlus, BQ and Asus smartphones.
- Open Google Assistant
- Tap the Google Lens logo (grey in bottom right)
- Target the object of interest with your camera
- When an object is detected by Google Lens, small white bubbles pop up on the screen. Give the AI time to analyze what it sees.
- Then press one of the colored spheres
- Google Lens will inform you about the previewed object. You can then request more information via Google search.
If you’re a little too impatient and click on your smartphone screen without Google Lens showing colored bubbles, you may get approximate results. For example, my Google Pixel confused an iPhone with a toiletry bag and my Marshall headphones with a pair of shoes. Similarly, Google Lens’s French is really out of date. “Finger” responds to Google Lens when it sees a hand or foot, for example.
To enjoy it on a smartphone of another brand, such as Huawei, Honor or Xiaomi, you will have to go through Google Photos:
- take a picture first
- Go to Google Photos app
- Select the photo by clicking the Google Lens icon
- Voila: object recognition will analyze your shot
If you haven’t received anything on your device yet, be patient. As always, this new functionality is deployed in successive waves. What do you think about Google Lens? The real revolution or the simple tool?
