Steam Deck: New UI to replace Big Picture mode on PC

Valve is officially allowing users to try out a new version of Steam’s Big Picture mode, making the game client look like the popular Steam Deck handheld. For those unfamiliar with the Big Picture, this isA full-screen interface mod that appeared on Steam in 2012 and includes all games and is intended for use with a controller.

Small, barely noticeable updates have been released since then, but the interface designed for TVs and controllers is finally getting a major update. As promised last July, Valve is now releasing the old Big Picture mod. Much more modern user interface created for the Steam Deck handheld game console.

Steam Deck UI replaces Steam’s Big Picture Mode

” This controller-first interface is designed for handheld and onboard mode Steam Deck “says Valve,” and it’s perfect for all the scenarios that Big Picture Mode currently performs This refresh comes shortly after Valve opened orders for the Steam Deck without reservation, but specifically the release of the new $99 dock that connects the console to a TV.

The updated version of Big Picture comes with many new features including: new home screen that lets you keep playing the latest games. You can also check for updates for all the games in your library. new universal search that pulls results from your library, friends list, and store. It also brings quick access, controller configuration and updates to system menus.

For now new Steam Deck UI only available in beta. While this update is exciting, Valve wants to point out that this is a test version of the Big Picture update that is still raw around the edges. Mature enough to gather community feedback on the product, but not ready for a full release.
