Since early 2014, Google has been working on a crazy new experimental 3D mapping technology for smartphones called Project Tango, and today it’s finally official. just now announced The new PHAB2 smartphone series, the high-end PHAB2 Pro, is the first Project Tango-enabled device.
Smartphone innovation has been slowing down lately, and that’s where Lenovo and Google come in. Offering a device that can do Project Tango without breaking the bank, hoping to bring new experiences to smartphone users everywhere through augmented reality.
Lenovo confirmed at CES in early January that they’ve been working closely with Google for nearly a year, and promised the first Project Tango phone will launch for under $500 this summer. Essentially turning this experimental technology into a mainstream product. The new Lenovo PHAB2 series is now official and here’s everything you need to know.
Today, at the annual Lenovo TechWorld developer conference, the company unveiled its latest smartphone, and it comes in three variations for every buyer. The budget model is a more modest option with extra power and a better camera, and finally, the high-end Project Tango powered phablet for $499 with all those cameras and sensors on the back.
Project Tango uses sensors, cameras and some advanced software to transform everything into another reality by mapping our environment and injecting it into the phone and apps. Transforming our living rooms into anything we can imagine or the boundaries of a mobile app. It does motion tracking, 3D mapping, depth perception and area learning. “For example, students can use AR apps to place real-scale virtual dinosaurs in their classrooms and enhance their learning through AR data layers that appear as they wander around the creatures. The new Lenovo PHAB2 is actually a massive 6.4-inch smartphone that comes in three variants, but only one is Project Tango certified. The product lineup officially consists of Lenovo PHAB2, PHAB2 Plus and high-end PHAB2 Pro. Its price is $199, $299 and $499. While the Pro is the essential model, here’s what you need to know about the three.
All three phones have a large 6.4-inch phablet-sized display wrapped in a beautiful aluminum shell, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and more. All specs are similar but slightly different to match their price point, and we’re going to focus on the PHAB2 Pro.
Lenovo’s new PHAB2 Pro is the first Project Tango phone, and it has tons of power and options to complement it. It has a 6.4-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display, Tango-certified Snapdragon 652 processor with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and micro SD slot, fingerprint scanner and triple rear cameras, one of which is 16. Megapixel camera for Project Tango.
The PHAB2 Pro features Dolby Audio Capture 5.1 for immersive sound, comes with in-box JBL headphones, and, like all three smartphone models, packs a massive 4,050mAh battery for all-day use. The other two phones have lower resolution screens and features that likely match their price points.
It’s worth noting that Lenovo plans to have around 25 apps for Google’s Tango at the time of launch, and around 100 before the end of the year.
Lenovo PHAB2 Release Date
According to the press release, the larger PHAB2 and PHAB2 Plus will be available from September, followed by Project Tango in the United States with the PHAB2 Pro arriving before the end of the year and sold at select Lowe retail stores nationwide. as Best Buy.
Most likely neither of these phones will be offered by retail carriers, and the release date this summer was actually the launch date, as the Lenovo Project Tango phone won’t go on sale until the end of the year.
