Galaxy Note 7 and New Gear VR Leaks Continue As Release Approaches

Just days before Samsung takes the stage in New York to officially announce the Galaxy Note 7, new rumors keep flowing. Samsung Gear VR 2 headset developed for 2016.

Over the past month, we’ve gotten everything from leaked press photos, photos and videos of working prototypes, pre-order or release date details, and more. It’s safe to say that the phone and its final design are not a secret, but the final specs and features are still a bit of a mystery.

We know it will be almost identical to the Galaxy Note 5 from 2015, but similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge that was released in March. Reports of the Galaxy Note 7 have been circulating for the past three months, but with the release date, almost everything is starting to come together here. We’ve heard everything from a bigger screen, a flat and curved model, incredibly long battery life, and more. Realistically, though, the Galaxy Note 7 will be more compatible with the Galaxy S7 Edge and probably not as big of an upgrade as expected from last year.

French site NoWhereElse has managed to get more official press photos alongside the first image of the new and improved Samsung Gear VR developed for the Galaxy Note 7. and pre-orders should be available on the same day or August 3. Some reports claimed it would release on the same day, but now we hear that a release date of August 15 is more likely.

The biggest thing potential buyers should take away from the leaked specs above is that the Galaxy Note 7 will likely only have 4GB of RAM, not 6GB as we’ve heard in the past. That’s not a huge deal, however, as most phones don’t use all 4GB, and 6GB is overkill on a smartphone and Android OS.

One area of ​​concern, though, is the ongoing reports of the Galaxy Note 7 with only a 3,500mAh battery inside. While this is the largest battery of any Galaxy Note to date, it’s smaller than the Galaxy S7 Edge or Galaxy S7 Active.

The Galaxy Note 7 has a large 5.7-inch display but apparently only due to the 3,500mAh battery, possibly because it needs space for the integrated S-Pen stylus and to make it IP68 dust and water resistant. But the new USB Type-C port means it will charge faster than any other Samsung device ever released. We’ll have to wait and see, but we’ve heard over and over again 3,500 mAh from typically accurate leakers.

New Samsung Gear VR 2

Next up is the new Samsung Gear VR headset for virtual reality. The new model pictured above is nearly identical to the first version, but with a few improvements across the board. According to @onleaks the new Gear VR is slightly smaller and more compact, has a better strap for better comfort and longer use, and maybe a better display.

Its information shows that the screen has a wider viewing angle for a more immersive VR experience of 110 degrees compared to just 96 degrees on the current Gear VR. The new model also features a new USB Type-C port specifically for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 but appears to be backwards compatible with the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6, Note 5 and more. So it has both micro USB and USB Type-C plugs to support all of Samsung’s latest smartphones. It also comes in all black, like the new Note 7.
