Gmail: Google tests ‘dynamic emails’ to revolutionize email experience

It’s rare to see major innovations in messaging apps. However, always looking for ways to improve the user experience, Google announced that it will introduce it in 2018. Gmail Support for AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) technology, a page format that speeds up web browsing. It is a web technology based on simplified HTML. It will be exported to the email domain, allowing developers to create more engaging and interactive messages.

Gmail: dynamic emails coming soon

In February 2018, Google announced in a post on its blog that the AMP project would soon be invited to emails, with the goal of modernizing one of the places people spend most of their time: mailboxes.

Android Police has identified a code snippet in the Gmail version 8.12 resource that indicates that Google has started rolling out this feature in the Mail app, but it’s not yet available to users. AMP for Gmail will be named visibly “dynamic email” (Dynamic Email) according to the headers defined in the code.

Concretely, this technology, which has already made its mark on web pages, will make it possible to create “rich e-mails” with interactive content, the benefits of which go beyond the aesthetically pleasing newsletters. Here is a question about creating functions within emails.

For example, imagine being able to answer a Doodle survey, book a Reservation, or browse through Pinterest images without having to leave your inbox, even if interactions are currently being done by clicking a link to landing pages.

For Gmail users whose material design release is expected, we don’t know when the feature will be available for now. Since AMP is an Open Source technology, we can also hope that other messaging apps will integrate support for an enhanced but also standardized experience.
