AirMessage is a free app that allows Android users to use iMessage almost like on the iPhone, as long as they have a Mac on hand. You can send and receive messages, pictures, videos, voice messages, and even some iMessage effects. The app isn’t entirely new: we were talking about it a little over a year ago when it was still in beta. However, it is now available for download in a stable release for the general public.

To work, AirMessage hijacks Apple’s locks to prevent it from being used on devices other than those in iMessage’s ecosystem. Therefore, it is imperative to have a Mac to act as a server. Once the app is installed on the mac and properly configured, AirMessage allows for remote interaction with the Messages app on macOS. All without the user really being aware of it. Developers ensure that the connection between the smartphone and the macOS client is secure.
iMessage instant messaging replaces SMS when iPhone and Mac users communicate with each other. The advantage of iMessage over SMS is the ability to share rich content such as photos, videos, audio recordings, stickers, Animoji and visual effects. However, it is not normally possible to take advantage of these features on Android. However, that will soon change as RCS, an equivalent standard in Android, becomes more democratic.
