Google Maps lets you create public events

It is now possible to create a public event in the Google Maps Android app. This tool allows you to enter a name, of course a location, a start and end date and time, as well as a description and explanatory photos. With fewer social options, but with direct integration with Google Maps, it’s somewhat similar to what we find on Facebook in a nutshell.

A tab dedicated to events lets you know what’s happening near you. It remains to be seen what the verification process is. We imagine not everyone will be able to offer something, but we’re just at the beginning of this feature and don’t have all the details yet. In any case, while Google Maps offered such an option, the app already relied on its users’ involvement in integrating places, leaving notes and comments, and even now reporting speed cameras and accidents. Google Maps has pointed out the most important events happening in major cities (marathon, Christmas market, etc.) directly on the map, but here we are still going one step further.

Android Police indicates that we are still in the testing phase and that the distribution is not made to all users. This varies depending on geographic location as well as your level of engagement in the app. Usually, “Local Guides” are offered first for new features.
