Motorola Android 7.0 Nougat Update Details

Motorola has always been quick with Android updates, and the Motorola Android Nougat version is no different. Many have already received the latest software, and more are released every month. In August, Google released Android 7.0 Nougat for select Nexus smartphones and tablets. Now, other smartphones are slowly getting the same treatment. Here’s what Motorola owners need to know.

The company has recently published a comprehensive list 15 devices that will receive updates soon. So far we’ve seen a couple come and more to come. Like unlocked Moto Z Android Nougat version, G4 and even Verizon DROID. Although this is Android 7.0 only, it is not the latest 7.1.2 Nougat.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow hit Motorola devices before almost any other phone, and the same is happening with Nougat. They work hard to provide customers with timely updates. The company recently confirmed some general update details and shared more information for users. And now we have the full list of Motorola Android Nougat updates coming.

February has been a successful month for the company. From releasing a series of updates to launching the new G5 budget smartphone. Owners can follow current or upcoming updates from Motorola blog which details everything you need to know. Users with certain Moto Z devices, Moto G4 and others all got Android 7.0 Nougat. While we don’t have an actual release date for every device, more are coming as 2017 continues. Now March and unlocked Moto Z got Nougat The last month following the Verizon model. Some were getting impatient, but now we have better news.

In late November, certain users with the Moto Z started getting Android 7.0 Nougat early. It was then officially confirmed by both Motorola and Verizon within a few days. Certain unlocked models, such as the Play, are still pending. At least for now.

Alternatively, the impressive Moto G4 and G4 Plus recently received Android 7.0 Nougat in Brazil and India. We saw the start of updates for the G4 on December 15, and the US version quickly followed suit. Here’s Motorola official changelog and software update related failure.

Motorola Android 7.0 Updates

According to a Motorola spokesperson, consumers “can expect to see Android N in the Moto Z family and the Moto G4 in Q4.” This turned out to be true as it started in November and continued until December. However, not all devices received the update. Moto was all over who or what bought and where.

Those who own the Moto Z, Moto Z Force DROID, Moto Z Play or Moto G4 will see Android 7.0 Nougat first if they haven’t seen it yet. Then the company will switch to other devices. Recently Motorola shared a post. official Android 7.0 update list. Many devices we expected to see updates were included, but “new” phones like the 2015 Moto G were not. So a phone that is not even two years old will not see an update. Here is the full list:

As you can see most smartphones released at the end of 2015 or 2016 are included. Flagships like the DROID Turbo 2 and even the DROID Maxx 2. But the 2015 3rd Gen Moto G will not see an update and none of the Moto E devices will receive Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Moto Z is finished and now with the G4 and G4 Plus getting it, expect the company to move on to carrier models and then the Moto X. Alternatively, those with newer budget devices like the Moto Z Play DROID can expect it to arrive any day. As of March 8 Verizon is updating It’s the Z Play DROID, which is nice to see for a non-flagship phone.

What’s New in Android Nougat

It goes through many important changes for Motorola users. Some things will look a little different, but everything should be included.

In a quick summary, Motorola Android 7.0 update will bring improved performance, better battery life with “Doze” features, split screen multitasking, recent apps button works like ALT+TAB and switch between recently used apps and much more. Google has over 50 major changes in Android N. Like smaller faster app loadings, a new JIT compiler, improved graphics and performance with the Vulkan API, refreshed notifications with quick response from the popup bar, customizable quick setting tiles, etc. more. All of this and more will come to the Moto Z and Moto G4.

Not to mention things like a better and improved Google Search that uses Google Assistant with machine learning, number blocking and call filtering. Again, this is Android 7.0 Nougat only and not the latest 7.1 software that Pixel users enjoy. Expect this at a later date.

Of course, most of these will come with enhancements made by Motorola. Like hands-free controls, always-on display, and more. Samsung has TouchWiz, HTC uses Sense UI, and LG has its own interface over stock Android. Not every new feature will be implemented, others will be replaced, but this looks like a big and exciting update to Android OS for Motorola users.

Motorola phones run almost stock Android, so this should be a quick and painless software update. While some may have issues, overall it’s worth the wait.

Motorola Android 7.1.2 Update Release Date

Now that Android 7.0 Nougat is on many Motorola devices, owners are starting to see the next step. This is a good thing to do, but don’t go too far. Google recently announced Android 7.1.2 as the first major update to Nougat. A release date is still a few months away. It is currently only available as a limited beta for certain devices. Wait sometime this summer.

In the meantime, expect Motorola and carriers to continue working together on general Nougat updates. All devices will see updates over the next few months, including the Moto X. When all this is over Motorola can move forward with Android 7.1.2 Nougat and above. At the same time, we’re starting to see rumors about Android O, which is crazy considering most people who haven’t received Nougat, which was released in August 2016. Stay tuned for more details.
