As for the space it takes up on your cloud storage, Google warns Original quality images that appear in both Drive and Photos count as two. However, there is a solution to circumvent this restriction. Google explains that with the Backup and Sync app on Windows and Mac, items uploaded to both services in original quality are only deducted from your quota once.
