The latest June Android Nougat update is now available for Nexus and Pixel devices. We keep our smartphones and tablets up to date with the latest features and security improvements from Google. Here’s what users need to know about this new version.
This is the first update since the Nexus and Pixel Android O beta release and the focus is improved security and patches for potential exploits for those still on Nougat.
Today’s June Android Nougat update is rolling out for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and of course the Google Pixel, Pixel XL and Pixel C Tablet. This is an important update that may affect your device and its performance.
Starting Monday, June 5, multiple devices will begin receiving this new update directly from Google or Verizon with the Pixel and Pixel XL. This is a small, fast and painless update that should only take a few minutes to complete.
Users will receive an update to the latest version of Android 7.1.2 Nougat for newer devices, while older Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 users will receive Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
Typically these updates contain 20-30 changes, mostly in the form of security patches, but sometimes other bugs or glitches are also fixed. We’ve seen new features added to these updates, just like the aging Nexus 5. That’s not the case for the June Android Nougat update.
June Android 7.1.2 Nougat Update Changes
For Nexus and Pixel owners, the March update to Android 7.1.2 or 7.1.1 Nougat is a big one. Firstly, it offers the latest security patches dated June 1 and June 5. To enable users to have the most secure experience on their smartphones and tablets.
However, not much in terms of new software features or battery life improvements. We’ve seen similar updates in the past, but Google shared a larger list of fixes for the month of June. Most of these are for security, exploits, and bugs, along with three important patches for Bluetooth. This should fix some issues Pixel and Nexus users are having.
In this new software update, we’ve identified over 100 changes and patches, including 28 critical fixes. As a result, we recommend that all users accept the update when it becomes available.
In closing, this is nothing more than a security update for users. Don’t expect to see new features or major software changes on your device. However, if users are looking for the latest features from Google, they can install Android O today.
When will he come?
Google shared all the details as well as multiple ways to get the new software update. Available for every device mentioned above starting today, June 5th. Users can expect an over-the-air update notification starting today or in the next 2-3 days.

To get started, go to Settings > About Phone > manually check for updates or wait for the wireless notification to turn on. Restarting your phone or tablet usually triggers the software update.
Most should have a June release by 8 or 9. Again, check the list at the top of the page to see if you have a supported device. We see that these updates are already rolling out for all devices, including Verizon updates for the Pixel and Pixel XL.
Android O Update
This is not an Android O update as it will be released this summer in Q3 2017. If you’re running the Android O beta, you won’t get the June Android Nougat update that’s rolling out this week. However, with these changes and improvements for those in the latest developer preview, we can expect the 3rd Android O beta in the next month or two.
Other details
All said and done, expect an update on your Nexus or Pixel device today or by the end of the week. You won’t notice anything new, but the phone will be safer and better prepared for the future. Then, in the next few months, Android O will arrive for everyone. Again, this update is for Nexus and Pixel devices only. This means that those who own Samsung, HTC, Motorola or other devices should wait for updates from this manufacturer and partner carriers.
