Samsung Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update was spotted before its official release for Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S8 Active.
It probably won’t arrive tomorrow but it certainly looks like Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update is starting to make progress.
Earlier this month, a report suggested that work on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ versions of Google’s new operating system has already begun. Samsung hasn’t confirmed it, which means we may still be a few weeks away from a public release.
Now, the Galaxy S8 Android 8.0 Oreo update has surfaced in a new benchmark that usually happens before the release day.
Samsung enthusiast site Galaxy Club Has detected Galaxy S8 Oreo update hiding geekbench. The tested device is the Exynos 9 Octa powered device, not the Snapdragon powered Galaxy S8 available in countries like the United States.
The benchmark does not confirm any new features and does not specify a specific release date for Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ or Galaxy S8 Active users. This information will come from Samsung at a later date.
While some companies are starting to name upcoming Android Oreo updates, Samsung is still silent about its plans for Galaxy phones and tablets.
The company has not released a list of devices that have been upgraded from Android Nougat, although we expect the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ to be at the top of the list. Flagship devices are always upgraded before older devices.
We expect devices such as the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 Active to switch to Android Nougat, although they are not in the first place.
Samsung is said to be planning to launch the Galaxy S9 flagship next year with Android Oreo. The device is reported to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 1440×2960 QHD+ Infinity Display, 4GB of RAM, and a physical fingerprint reader.
Phones like the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 fall outside of Samsung’s standard two-year support, meaning they’re in danger of missing out on Android Oreo.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 may miss Android Oreo, but software support will likely never end. Samsung and its carrier partners often extend bug fixes and security patches to devices well beyond the two-year mark.
It’s still unclear if Samsung plans to roll out Android 7.1.1 to older Galaxy devices prior to the release of Android 8.0 Oreo. Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 8 is the first Galaxy device to run Android 7.1.1, and owners of older devices are hoping to upgrade to the new version of Nougat.
With the company’s first Android Oreo update on the horizon, it seems highly unlikely that a common Android 7.1.1 Nougat will be released.
