Google has finally livestreamed the September Android 8.0 Oreo build for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel, Pixel XL, and Pixel C. The company has also released a new Android 7.1.1 update for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
Earlier this month, Google confirmed its plans to release a September security patch for select Nexus and Pixel devices. The company summarized the patches in the update but failed to release factory images and full OTA images.
Yesterday, the company started rolling out a new build of Android 8.0 Oreo in the guise of an Android Nougat update, although it looks like it has released the correct files today.
The company has finally released the September Android 8.0 Oreo update for devices running the brand new operating system. Nexus and Pixel users can: install manually now Update before over-the-air (OTA) release.
Nexus and Pixel users who choose not to manually install the September security update can wait for the download prompt to appear.
We have yet to receive a prompt for our Nexus 5X and it may take a few days before this new build is available to all Nexus, Pixel, Pixel XL and Nexus 6P users running Android Oreo.
Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P users currently running Android Nougat will most likely receive patches from the September update that ships with Android 8.0 Oreo.
After some delay, it looks like carriers are finally pushing Android 8.0 Oreo to Nexus devices. The two carriers have recently confirmed their release and we should see most Nexus Android Oreo updates rolling out before the end of the month. Impatient Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X users can install the software just before the OTA.
Google has also released new Android 7.1.1 Nougat versions for Nexus 9 and Nexus 6. No device will receive Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Pixel XL, and Pixel may not be on Android 8.0 Oreo for long. Google is reportedly preparing an Android 8.1 Oreo update and it may roll out for select Nexus and Pixel devices in October.
Google isn’t talking about the Android 8.1 Oreo update yet, but references have been spotted in a recent Google app beta.
If the company uses the model it used last year, we could see Android 8.1 Oreo arrive alongside the rumored Pixel 2 next month. Google introduced Android 7.1 Nougat with the Pixel and Pixel XL last October.
Google hasn’t sent out media invites, but there are currently rumors of a Pixel 2 announcement. early october.
