Jos Buttler has been appointed as England’s white ball captain after Eoin Morgan decided to bid farewell to international cricket earlier this week. Buttler’s first assignment will be the T20Is and ODIs against India this July. Eoin Morgan is England’s most successful captain because under him England won their first World Cup in 2019.
The 31-year-old captained nine ODIs and five T20Is during Morgan’s tenure as captain. He led the Netherlands at Amstelveen last week.
Managing Director of England Family Key He recommended Buttler’s name because he believes Jos Butter is in his best form and respected by all his teammates in the locker room.
“I didn’t hesitate to offer him the role,” Key said. “He is respected in the locker room by all his teammates and will take great pleasure in leading his country. He is in the form of his life and showing his talent against the best players and teams in the world.
New captain Jos Buttler said he learned a lot from Eoin Morgan.
“It was the most memorable period for everyone involved,” Buttler said. “He was an inspiring leader and it was great to play under him. I have learned a lot from him and take on this role.
“The white ball teams have excellent depth and I look forward to leading the teams in the series starting next week against India and then against South Africa in July. It is a great honor to captain your country and when I have the chance to step up in the past, I would love to do it. “I love it. I can’t wait to move this team forward.”
England’s Test captain Ben Stokes said:[Buttler] It was the obvious choice when Morgs decided to retire. He was vice-captain for several years and nothing will change. Jos will continue the ethos and mentality that Morgs brought to us from 2015, so I honestly don’t think you’ll see any change. It’s time for Jos to take the team forward.”
