Adonit Jot Pro 3 Review: A Pen for All Your Touchscreens

Gone are the days when mobile devices with 5-inch screens were considered too big. As we enter 2018, the era of bezelless 18:9 6-inch devices has arrived and is rapidly being adopted by all major smartphone manufacturers. While most of us love the extra screen space, that doesn’t necessarily mean an easier usage scenario. Because of this, stylus have started gaining a lot of traction lately. What was originally released for tablet devices is now making its way to mobile devices. Samsung has been doing this with their own brands for a while. S-penand other manufacturers Apple and Microsoft they have also released their own variant of stylus or smart pens that work on their own devices.

But what if you want a stylus that will work on all devices without the hassle of pairing items or constantly charging? Yes, these features come with an affordable price tag. Seems too good to be true, doesn’t it? Luckily for you, Adonit Jot Pro 3 is here. It just comes with a price tag $29.99The stylus works well on all touchscreen devices, and it does so while looking absolutely gorgeous. But if you’re looking for a good stylus for your large touchscreen device, should you consider the Pro 3? Let me answer that as we take an in-depth look at the Adonit Jot Pro 3 in our review below:

Main Features

1. Compatibility

The best part of Adonit Jot Pro 3 is, Compatible with almost any touchscreen device. While the company’s widely popular products like Ink and Pixel Pro are great pens, they’re limited to Windows Tablets and iPads, respectively. The Jot Pro 3, on the other hand, is an always-on pen that works on any touchscreen device. No need for Bluetooth pairing or batteries that require constant charging.

2. Design

We’ve all seen basic stylus pens that try to mimic the look of a pen but then fail miserably. I remember using the S-Pen that came with the Galaxy Note 3 in those days and boy did it screw up. Yes, it was functional, but the design language wasn’t that appealing. But that was way back in 2013. Now, here I am in 2017, holding the Adonit Jot Pro 3 and I just don’t want to keep it down.

Design

The body is made of an anodized aluminum body with stainless steel details that looks very stylish and elegant. Also, the minimal stuff on the device is what makes it so special. The sturdy aluminum pen has a built-in clip so you can easily carry it around. There is also a magnetic cap on the stylus that attaches to the rear end of the stylus while in use, thus ensuring hassle-free management. Oh, and let’s not forget the device’s grip. Professional 3 has a textured grip etched into the body of the pen. This keeps the pen exactly where you want it when drawing or taking notes.

Design 2

The slim 9mm body of the device is also a pleasure to look at and use. It’s also available in a multitude of colors, including Black, Silver, Rose Gold, and Midnight Blue. While certainly not as robust as the Pixel Pro, The design language is perfect for a lightweight pen designed for everyday use.

3. Precision Disc

Adonit is a company that got into the stylus game early and released its first stylus in 2011. Since then, the company has grown a lot and so has the technology of its pens. The company now has three different types of nibs for its pens: Mesh Tip, Disc Tip and the highly advanced 1mm Pressure Sensitive Tip. While the last one is reserved for flagship items, Jot Pro 3 uses the Disc Tip.

Magnetic Disk

Precision Disc Tip only creates a precise point of contact with the screen It was designed as one piece to write exactly where you place it, but also for greater stability. Although there is no pressure sensitivity on the stylus, it still works quite accurately.

User experience

Yes, the stylus looks great and packs a lot of features for its price. But the fun doesn’t end there. The pen works really well, especially considering its competitive price. I’ve used it on many devices like the OnePlus 5T, iPhone 8 Plus, and my personal device, the Pixel 2. them, but then again, this is to be expected. Other than that, Adonit Jot Pro 3 works really well.

User experience

Navigating between my home screen and other menus feels super smooth, and the pen itself feels like a smart pen actuation. I wanted to check the accuracy of the pen, so I downloaded a bunch of apps like: Evernote, Sketchand Adonit’s own advice, Fame. If I had to describe it in one word, I would The performance of the Adonit Jot Pro 3 is effortless. The screens can easily recognize the stylus, and I experienced negligible lag when operating the stylus.

Business

The accuracy of the pen is great, but not perfect. Considering it’s not pressure sensitive either, it’s definitely not for the designer in you. Yes, Pro 3 holds its place in coloring applications such as: ColorMe, but that’s it. As for business users, you should find the Pro 3 quite easy to highlight items in presentations and mark up items in PDFs. Overall, considering the price point of this item, It is very suitable for daily use for taking notes, intermediate drawing and normal business tasks.

Pricing and Availability

The Adonit Jot Pro 3 sits comfortably between the company’s Mini 3 and Ink Smart Stylus, combining the compatibility of the former with the design language of the latter. The Pro 3 retails for $29.99, which is a great price for a device that packs a host of features, is compatible with all touchscreen devices, and also makes a style statement.

While it doesn’t have any pressure sensitivity or shortcut buttons for advanced use, the stylus works well for everyday use and is suitable for students and business users alike.

Pros:

  • Compatible with all touch screen devices
  • Textured surface for enhanced grip
  • It looks stunning

Cons:

  • No pressure sensitivity
