Epson L485 Printer Review: A Great All-in-One Ink Tank Printer 1

Epson L485 Printer Review: A Great All-in-One Ink Tank Printer

Epson is one of the top companies producing quality printers today. In particular, I’m a fan of Ink Tank printers, which are way better than your usual ink cartridge printers. Yes, Epson’s Ink Tank printers require you to pay a premium upfront, but they certainly turn out to be a better buy in the long run than cartridge-based printers. In this article, we will review Epson’s L485 all-in-one Ink Tank printer (₹16,199) to see if the product meets the high standard the company has set for itself and the entire printer market in general, and if it’s really worth the premium pricing it’s asking for:

Epson L485 Printer Features

Before we dig deeper, let’s get the specification on paper out of the way. Frankly, I don’t think much of the specs on paper that say it’s a good place to start, as it lays the foundation for what we expect from any product. You can find Epson L485 specifications in the table below:

Design and Build Quality

At first glance, the Epson L485 looks like other printers on the market, but on closer inspection you will soon notice the large ink tank attached to the right side of the printer. External presence of the ink tank makes removal and replacement really easy.

When you get to the front of the printer, you will find all the buttons you need to control the printer. The front is basically your main console where you control everything about your printer. I also like that the printer has a 1.44″ color LCD display This will help you choose the print mode, settings, and other features you want to access.

The left side of the printer has a USB connection that you can use to connect the printer to your computer, that said, i prefer wifi connection over physical cables but more on that later. The power cord goes into the back of the device which is hidden behind a plastic cover which gives the printer a very clean look.

Epson L485 Printer 3

All in all, I’m quite happy with the design and build quality of the Epson L485, as the printer makes the controls very easy to access and navigate, and packs tons of features while maintaining a minimal footprint. Weighing 6 Kg, the printer is also highly portable and easy to carry. this makes it useful when you need to move around a lot inside your printer.

Connectivity and Compatibility

As I mentioned above, you can connect the printer to your Windows PC or macOS system using the physical USB connection, but there are many other connection options that really show the versatility of this printer. The best way to connect the printer is to use the WiFi option.. Simply connect the printer to your home or office WiFi; All devices connected to the network can use the printer.

Epson Edition 10

If you do not want to make the printer available to everyone but want to cut the cable, you can use the WiFi Direct feature of the printer to connect it to your device. The WiFi Direct feature ensures that the printer is only usable on devices that you have skillfully set up.. The Epson L485 is also compatible with Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print and Mopria Print Services technologies, so you really have many options for connecting the printer to a device of your choice.

Epson Edition 11

To me, the best thing about wireless communication is that, Epson L485 can also receive print commands from your mobile devices.. The printer supports both iOS and Android platforms. To print something using your mobile device, all you have to do is download the Epson Print app (Android / iOS) and issue all your printing commands from the application.

Epson Printing

The Epson Print app not only lets you print documents or images using your mobile device, but also allows you to check ink status, perform maintenance, download firmware updates and remotely control all functions of the printer. Wireless connectivity together with the Epson Print app makes this printer look like a really smart one.

Printing and Performance

I am very happy with the performance of the Epson L485 printer and I can say that it is one of the best printers I have used for a while. In my testing, the printer produced consistently great prints with no loss of detail.. Black and white prints are excellent, and the L485 can easily produce more than 30 pages per minute. When it comes to paper sizes and capacity, the printer supports different paper sizes including A4, A5, A6 and B5 and is capable of holding 100 sheets at a time.

Epson L485 Printer 7

When it comes to color prints, the printer slows down a bit, which is understandable. In my testing, the printer was able to print anywhere between 9-12 pages per minute. Speed aside, I really liked the printer’s color accuracy, as the printed material is almost identical to the digital material. Said, when printing complex images, the printer did not perform as well as when printing documents. Details were a little washed out and overall image quality was slightly below par. However, since I don’t use glossy paper, the problem may be the paper, not the printer itself.

Scan and Copy

As the title suggests, the Epson L485 is an all-in-one printer, meaning it can not only print digital documents and images, but also scan and copy physical ones. in my test, L485 took 20-30 seconds to scan a pageIt’s on par with other printers in its price range. When it comes to copying, the Epson L485 can produce 99 copies of a document at once, which is more than anyone would want.

Epson L485: One of the Best Printers You Can Buy

I only used the Epson L485 for a week during my review period but fell in love with it. I especially like the ink tank feature which makes me forget to refill it every two weeks and keeps the ink from drying out even if it hasn’t been used for more than a month. That’s reason enough for me to invest more in ink tank printers than regular printers.

I also love the wireless connectivity features that allow me to print from anywhere and with any device I have. I can be on my Android phone or iPad or MacBook Pro, print a document if I need it. Overall, I think the Epson L485 makes using the printer a pleasure rather than a chore, and that’s nothing I can say about most of the printers I’ve used in the past.

Pros:

  • Multiple ways to connect
  • Ability to print from mobile devices
  • Compatible with almost all operating systems
  • ink tank technology
  • Fast print time

cons

  • The structure could have been a little stronger.

Epson L485 Review: A Great All-in-One Ink Tank Printer

The Epson L485 is a highly capable L485 all-in-one that does what it does. I like the connectivity options and the ability to print documents directly from the smartphone. As I mentioned earlier, Epson’s greatest achievement with the L485 is that it makes printing an easy task, not a headache, and that’s a huge win for me.
