OnePlus is working on a connected watch. Confirmed this in an interview with Inputmag is none other than Peter Lau, CEO of the Sino-Finnish brand. confirms it product is under developmenthowever, there is nothing to indicate that it will be released for now.
Indeed, this isn’t the first time OnePlus has worked on a smartwatch. Peter Lau explains A first was developed in 2015. The format then exploded, thanks to Apple and the Apple Watch and Google’s Wear OS. However, it was thrown aside at the last moment as it urgently needed to fix the overheating issue of the OnePlus 2 (caused by the Snapdragon 810). He also claims that launching a smartwatch will blow his company too far.
In this interview, Peter Lau said that the brand’s Works with Google to improve Wear OS, especially regarding the connection of this platform with other Android systems. But nothing says the new OnePlus watch will run on this OS.
OnePlus doesn’t approve a watch on Wear OS
As a matter of fact, 9to5Google, transferring the interview, understood that the OnePlus Smartwatch would work on this platform. But the brand wanted to clarify its CEO’s words by saying no. Peter Lau never confirmed that the smartwatch and Wear OS talk are related.
It is not yet clear whether OnePlus will launch with this new product. The time seems right. In 2020, the brand has really diversified its offering by offering more affordable products like Nord alongside the 8 series, which are high-end smartphones. On top of that, it markets other items such as wireless headphones, for example One Buds Z or televisions in India. there would be no clock just the logical consequence of all this.
