Xiaomi Mi Travel Backpack Review: Satisfaction at an Affordable Price

Xiaomi is known for its most affordable phones in the Indian market, but the company is making strides in all different categories, including lifestyle products. Yes, as you know from our YouTube videos, we recently went to China and came across the really cool Mi Travel Backpack in Mi Store ($49.99, 2,049 rupees). Xiaomi already sells three backpacks in India, but the Mi Travel Backpack has not been launched here yet. I have been using this backpack last week and here is my experience with Mi Travel Backpack:

Mi Travel Backpack Features

Before I talk about my experiences and opinions, let’s take a quick look at the key features of the Mi Travel backpack:

Design and Build Quality

You will immediately notice that Mi Travel Backpack has a premium construction and does not compromise on quality in any way. While this travel bag is much cheaper than its competitors (thanks to Xiaomi’s honest price), Mi Travel Backpack is just as good as any other backpack you like to bring with you around the country.

When you look at this backpack, you see it. It has a charcoal-like color and a curvy design, with the front giving it an hourglass style aesthetic.. A small zipper at the front (also premium quality and strong), move to the bottom of this backpack that folds into 2 side pockets.

This bag has 2 main zippered compartments that are accessible from the top, but we’ll detail it in the storage section below. The backpack is made using several different materials, the front is much more polished compared to the sturdy denim-like feel of the rest of the backpack. The exterior is water resistant, while the interior is lined with polyester..

The back and shoulder straps of the backpack are well padded, making Mi Travel Backpack a joy for anyone who owns it. I loved carrying the bag with me on the subway every day and bringing it to the office. There is also a large horizontal strap on the back of the backpack that can be used to stow on a suitcase with wheels and handles.

This backpack has a number of thoughtful features that show that Xiaomi has considered the user’s comfort while designing, this is how I would like to summarize this backpack.

While the Xiaomi Mi Travel Backpack can stand upright when you balance it at the bottom, Xiaomi could have added support legs to make the process even easier. This is the same feedback we gave for the messenger camera bag as it’s a small thing, but important to the overall experience.

I really like this design decision from Xiaomi as it gives character to the backpack, but I have a small reservation against it. The curve adds a lot of wrinkles to the front and this one looks a bit shabby at timescan be fixed easily by filling the bag with lots of stuff. But Xiaomi could have kept that in mind and added a wireframe to the front of the backpack to give it a little more support.

Well, let me tell you, it’s a huge NO if you think you’re going to run out of storage on your trip with this bag. This Mi Travel backpack has 11 storage compartments in total., so I think Xiaomi has you covered on that front. Let’s start from one point and close all the chapters in this backpack.

Starting at the front, you have a small but roomy zippered pocket that can be used to store your mints, sanitizer or coins. You can even store small accessories like a fidget cube or charging cables, but this backpack has enough room for that. So, let’s take a look at all the compartments inside.

When you open the main compartment, you will be amazed at the total number of pockets (six to be exact) that you can use to store all the different types of items. you will see first Large space in the middle that can be used to store chargers, wired headphones or camera equipment. I was able to carry the Panasonic Lumix G77 and a few strange lenses comfortably in this area.

Then on either side of this compartment you have a zippered pocket where you can put small memorabilia or pens to keep them always at hand. There is 2 pockets under the front zipper that you can use to store an additional phone or two (if you are planning to travel to foreign countries) or business cards exchanged on the trip.

And finally, you have a hidden zippered compartment at the back that you can use to store and safely transport your files or important papers that you want to keep away from others.

The second compartment, as expected, is for holding the laptop. You can easily put any 15.6 inch laptop (even some big gaming laptops) with laptop or tablets (like my iPad) in Mi Travel Backpack pocket in front of laptop compartment. Xiaomi has made a stylish addition and marked everything for yougives instructions on where to put your stuff in this backpack.

Now that we have almost everything covered, let’s pay attention to the side pockets, which are an important part of the aesthetics of the Mi Travel Backpack. Either of these two pockets can be used to store cables and dongles for your laptop and smartphone., but the one on the left has extra lining so you can also use it to store your lens filters or SSD. I mostly used it to carry extra charging and data cables.

Gear Protection

As for the protection of the interior hardware, I am very happy with the overall padding of this backpack. Xiaomi has done an outstanding job of providing users with a padding inside the bag where they need it, and you won’t feel like your laptops or camera gear is in any danger.

This the laptop compartment is pretty well padded at both endswhich means the laptop can withstand a bump or two while comfortably carrying the bag, either via the shoulder strap or the padded handle on the top.

This The materials used in the Mi Travel backpack are also water resistant., which means you don’t have to worry about rushing to seek shelter during monsoons in India. I believe all your equipment will fit comfortably in this travel backpack and you can carry it with peace of mind.

User experience

Now that you know everything there is to know about the Mi Travel Backpack, let’s talk about how much I really adore this backpack and that it can meet everyone’s needs, even if they don’t have much to carry.

Travel backpack designed by Xiaomi for professionals, pretty light and didn’t feel like a chore to carry it throughout the dayat a photo shoot, a product launch or normal day-to-day work in the Beebom office.

I usually carry my backpack on my left shoulder, but Mi Travel Backpack has one of the most comfortable shoulder straps that it never sinks into my shoulder. I don’t have any major concerns with this backpack but we cannot comment on the wear and tear (aging) of the backpack as we will only be able to discern the same over a long period of use.

Xiaomi Mi Travel Backpack: It Doesn’t Get Better Than This

For me, the Xiaomi Mi Travel Backpack has been the perfect companion for most of my product launch trips. There’s a lot to love (i.e., a lot) about this lightweight and comfortable travel backpack, and there’s almost nothing to sneer at here. At least I couldn’t find any negatives to stop me from buying this backpack.

If I had never picked up the Mi Travel Backpack, I wouldn’t have believed you. could buy a durable gear backpack for such an affordable price. Icon backpack ($129.95) is what many in the tech community swear by.

The Icon backpack will give you the same quality and comfort, but it costs almost 3 times the Mi Travel Backpack, which further proves its worth – and in my opinion, it is the best backpack in its price segment. You can find backpacks from unknown companies, but Xiaomi is a well-known brand that many people trust. Here’s a rundown of what’s good and bad in this backpack:
