We are not talking about porcelain, we are talking about a metal alloy that gives a much superior look and finish to the Honor 7, which we have determined as the winner of this first round, although it will be the choice of everyone in terms of design.

Let’s come to the screen, which is one of the key points when choosing your smartphone. If the first criterion is size and definition, it cannot be decided at this point. In fact, for 1920 x 1080 pixel definition or 423 dpi definition, the diagonal of both is 5.2 inches. Both phones have IPS technology that promises good viewing angles and deep blacks (but AMOLED technology continues to get better in this area).

The size / screen ratio is in favor of the Honor 7, which has smaller dimensions in height and width compared to the Nexus 5X. Regarding the colorimetric quality and maximum brightness, we can say that the Chinese phone is very good. Regarding Google Phone, we will have to wait for our testing to find out more about this particular point. It will be a draw in this criterion, which is difficult for now to decide between them!

Performance: The Nexus advantage!

This is a difficult but interesting tour! These are really two schools clashing here. On one side is a Kirin 935 internal processor (8 64-bit cores) for the Honor 7, on the other side a Snapdragon 808 (6 64-bit cores) for the Nexus 5X. Where the Nexus is satisfied with 2 GB, we have already been able to test the Snapdragon 808 on the LG G4, which offers very good performance with 3 GB of RAM. Kirin 935 is also doing well. Combined with 3GB of RAM, it allows for truly efficient multitasking.

On the other hand, the Mali T628 MP4 graphics chip is not the most efficient, even if it can run most games in the Play Store correctly. Another point to consider for performance is, of course, software optimization. In this little game, it’s hard to beat Google and the latest stock Android version: Marshmallow. Even with 1GB less RAM, the performance of the Snapdragon 808 combined with a pure version of the OS should work wonders. The Nexus 5X scores one point.

Interface: Emotion UI 3.1 and Android Marshmallow stock version

Emotion UI 3.1 is a successful interface that brings its share of functionality and aesthetic changes. If we do not evaluate the appearance of the interface of the Honor 7, we can testify to the quality of the additions. The hardware part even joins the software, with the Honor 7’s smart switch that can be configured to perform different actions.

The Nexus 5X is powered by Android Marshmallow in its rawest version. It’s hard for manufacturers to match the simplicity and fluency of Android with its purest version. The 5X will also be the first to benefit from security updates as well as the latest versions of Android. At this point, the advantage is obviously in favor of Google phone.

Camera: 12 or 20 megapixels?

As you know, the number of megapixels does not necessarily determine the quality of photos. Aperture, pixel size, autofocus or flash are factors to consider. Let’s start with the Sony Exmor RS IMX230 sensor, which pleasantly surprised us during our Honor 7 review.

The Nexus 5X has a 12.3-megapixel sensor and 1.55µm pixels capable of capturing much more light, which is an essential element to the quality of a photo. This gives very good results in low light conditions. While we haven’t yet been able to test the quality of the sensor ourselves, it looks promising.

Autonomy: Honor 7 advantage

The Honor 7 has a 3100mAh battery, compared to 2700mAh for the Nexus 5X. A significant difference can only be smoothed out with good software optimization. If there is no doubt that Android Marshmallow, which equips the Nexus 5X, provides a significant improvement in autonomy compared to Lollipop, this may not allow to reduce the significant difference in the capacity of the two batteries of 400 mAh.

Also, both competitors have the same screen size with the same description. Also note that the Honor 7 should receive the Android Marshmallow update, so the latter should benefit from software improvements regarding energy consumption. A clear advantage to Honor at this point.

Price: Nexus pays cash for its pricing

If you know of a not-too-distant era when Nexus were smartphones with unbeatable value for money, those days are long gone. The price of the Nexus has been revised upwards since the Nexus 6 was launched last year.
