iPhone 6S and Huawei Mate S: duel around Force Touch

It’s a new technology that has been talked about for several months. While we could see its beginnings on a few devices a while ago, this version was just the foundations of a larger building. Thanks to the successive launch of flagship smartphones, Do Huawei and Apple offer the most promising Force Touch right now?

During the IFA, Chinese manufacturer Huawei shed light on its latest model, the Mate S, and also dared to make quite an announcement effect by preparing the curious crowd. Presentation of one of the first smartphones with Force Touch technology. You should know that for several weeks this technology is still associated with Apple.

Huawei, brave

It was the Cupertino company that introduced Force Touch to its MacBook Pro and Apple Watch, but to be honest, this version of the technology has evolved a lot since then. Could Apple have been bitten by Huawei? If on paper this scenario really made us want it, it would be a lie to say.

The manufacturer succeeded in a good communication move, which is undeniable, but during the official presentation of the Mate S, the obvious finally came to light. Huawei is still in the development phase of this technology and plans to integrate Force Touch in a 128GB model that will only be released next year. What should have been a big event gently turns into a masquerade.

Features provided by the manufacturer therefore remains sketchy and above all hypothetical, demonstrations are done through pictures or videos. Thus, the Mate S’s Force Touch feature would force a strong press on the screen to zoom in on a specific area of ​​an image.

Another show, a little more incongruous, presents the screen as a potential scale-up, as shown in this image that winks at Apple. But one task that stands out above all and during a presentation is that Huawei is looking for developers to take advantage of the technology that will come to their screens. Nothing really concrete yet.

Apple, methodical

On the other side of the ring this week (last night, actually) Apple’s latest flagship iPhone 6S and 6S Plus were revealed. The first will also have the technology Force Touch rebranded as 3D Touch to stand out from your competitors. But is it really different?

Apple’s Keynote therefore highlighted the 6S and didn’t hesitate to elaborate on their own Force version… sorry, 3D Touch. This works thanks to a built-in system that can measure the distance separating the glass from the backlight zone. This device, which can calculate the difference between the two elements, will thus be able to evaluate the intensity of the pressure exerted by the finger and therefore determine what action is expected.

3D Touch lets you activate the Quick Actions function, which gives you access to a contextual menu. by pressing an icon on your home screen. This menu, which appears on the main screen, will provide access to shortcuts and open the window, for example, to write direct messages.

Two functions should be distinguished: “Peek” and “Pop”. Peek, as the name suggests, gives access to previews of emails by holding your finger down on a defined area while Pop opens the message directly.

There have been no public statements made to non-smokers, and most importantly, that this technology will be integrated into a future version of the even more expensive iPhone 6S. 3D Touch will be included in the program.As soon as the iPhone 6S launches on September 25.

Solution

We would really like Huawei to pull the rug from under Apple, but we have to admit that they at least succeeded in Force Touch. With a concrete presentation, a real application of a technology and its recent commercialization, the iPhone 6S could only win this round. Still, it will be necessary to review this confrontation in a few weeks. Huawei Mate S 128GB version and Force Touch will finally emerge from the shadows. By then, maybe Huawei could have managed to surpass Apple.
