PS5: Here’s how VRR technology makes games faster and smoother

Since the next generation consoles are released in 2020, manufacturers are placing a lot of emphasis on the console. TVs with HDMI 2.1 portsbecause they promised to bring interesting technologies to PS5 and Xbox Series X. This is especially true for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) technology. Improves the visual performance of games by minimizing or eliminating visual artifactssuch as stuttering and screen tearing issues.

After announcing it’s coming in November 2020, Sony has finally revealed a list of all games that will see this tech roll out to consoles a few days ago and their performance after receiving an update. The first users have already been able to test the changes brought by VRR in certain games, and at least we can say that. Players who switch TVs will now have a serious advantage over others.

Variable refresh rate greatly increases in-game FPS

As shown in the video on the ElAnalistaDeBits channel on YouTube, VRR technology dramatically improves the fluidity of games. Some games like Spider-Man Remastered, Rachet & Clank: Rift Apart or Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which were formerly limited to 60 FPS in “Dynamic 1440p RT Performance Mode”, now see frame-per-second counter increments thanks to VRR. Indeed, variable refresh rate dynamically synchronizes the refresh rate of the screen with the video output of the PS5 console, thus eliminating any image tearing or imput lag issues you may have encountered before. Compatible games thus offer 10 to 30 additional FPS with VRR.

Not all games unlock the FPS counter. This is especially true for Resident Evil Village or Astro’s Playroom. still limited to 60 FPS. However, technology VRR makes games much more fluid in areas with lots of screen elementswithout compromising the quality of the graphics.

Other titles like Elden Ring still haven’t received updates to take advantage of VRR. While the game is not officially compatible, VRR should still allow it. make the game a little more stable in some areas.
