The Elden Ring Thops questline lets you find a second Glintstone Key to get him into the Academy, and turn this clumsy wizard into a potential path to Liurnia’s largest school of learning. But where do you find him, and what are the results and rewards of Thops’ quest in the Elden Ring? We’ll show you how to complete Thops’ questline and find a second key for him as you explore the Raya Lucaria Academy in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring Thops’ mission revealed

Thops’ quest is actually one of the shortest quests in Elden Ring, with just a few steps to complete before it reaches the end. It’s also one of the easier tasks, but that’s pretty relative considering most tasks in Elden Ring are dozens of hours of brutal endurance tests. Thops’ quest is more about searching and exploration than fighting powerful bosses, and can therefore provide a slightly more approachable experience.

Where can I find Thops?

Thops is located in Irith Church, a small building just down the road to the left after leaving Stormveil Castle and entering Liurnia of the Lakes for the first time (to do this, you need to defeat the Grafted Godrick. We have a guide on how to beat Godrick right here).

Thops sits on the right side of the church. He’s a smug mage who will be able to sell you a few basic spells if you donate 10 Runes to him, and works as a good starting point for those looking to upgrade to an Intelligence build for the first time. You can also talk to him and he will explain that he wants to enter the Raya Lucaria Academy, the Elden Ring’s answer to Hogwarts, that he is north of you but lacks the special Glintstone Key needed to break the magical barrier and enter. This means you’ll need two Glintstone Keys in total – one for you, which will take you to the Academy, and then another for Thops to complete the questline.

How to get Glintstone Key for Thops

Once you’re in the Academy, you’ll have to go a long way to get a second Glitter Stone Key. We’ve outlined some clear steps to help you find what you need:

1. Proceed through Raya Lucaria Academy until you reach and defeat Radagon’s Red Wolf of Radagon boss fight and reach the Debate Hall Grace Site.
2. From the Debate Hall, head north into the open courtyard and immediately go up the left stairs, where a few mages will shoot at you.
3. Turn left again and jump off the balcony to the rooftop below.
4. Follow the rooftops and stairs until you reach the roof of an area called Cuckoo Church.
5. There will be a broken window through which you can look from the inside, and below you you will see a corpse with an item on a chandelier.
6. Go down to the chandelier and loot the corpse to get the second Glitterstone Key.

When you bring the spare key back to him (he won’t accept the first key you need), he’ll be very grateful and will give you the Erudition gesture as a reward (more useful than you might think, as it can be used to complete certain puzzles around the Elden Ring). The next time you fast travel, pass the time, or reload the game, Thops will likely have left the Church of Irith on his way to Raya Lucaria Academy. This technically ends the questline, but you can find Thops again… sort of.

Thops body position and quest rewards

Thops can be found once again at Raya Lucaria Academy – the problem is, he’s dead. From the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace, just head East and go into the next room and you’ll see her corpse sitting on a table. On it will be an Academy Glintstone Staff used for witchcraft, Thops’ Barrier enchantment, as well as Thops’ Bell Bearing, which can be brought to Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold and allows you to purchase Thops. stock from them (of course, it wouldn’t make much difference if you bought all of their shares before you died).
