Everyone needs a capable note-taking app to quickly jot down thoughts and important information. Evernote is the oldest note-taking solution that continues to evolve. Most note-taking enthusiasts use Evernote software as a file cabinet to keep notes, documents, web clippings, and more. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy phone users have Samsung Notes as their default option. Also, Samsung regularly releases updates to improve the functionality of the app. As a Samsung phone user, you might be confused between these two note taking apps. Do not worry. The latest update of Samsung Notes includes drawing capabilities, while Evernote puts emphasis on notes and documents organization and other related features. You may wonder which one to use, but only one can fit most, if not all, of your needs and requirements. Let’s compare both apps to find the better one for you?

Cross-Platform Availability
Samsung Notes is only available on Android and Windows (limited to Samsung-branded Windows laptops).
Evernote is accessible on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and iPad. Evernote also offers a Chromium extension for clipping articles and web content while browsing on the desktop.

Samsung Notes is part of the company’s major app overhaul to One UI. Samsung’s stock apps have a giant app banner at the top, and the main options, including notes and the add note icon, are at the bottom. Navigating the user interface with one hand is a pleasure. As expected, Samsung Notes also supports Android 10 dark theme.
Evernote looks a bit outdated compared to Samsung Notes. The app still uses the hamburger menu, which messes with the Android 10 rollback. Fortunately, the ability to add new notes, voice memos, handwriting, and more options is at the bottom. Evernote also plays nicely with a dark theme.
Grade Organization
Note organization plays an important role in any note-taking app. After a while, you will fill the software with hundreds of notes, and in this case, you will want to have a skilled note organization structure that can keep the notes in the relevant place.
Samsung Notes lets you create notebooks. You can also add a category to a note. Evernote is on the same page as Samsung Notes. You can create multiple Notebooks in the app and then add tags to take notes for better organization.
However, when it comes to using the search function to find the note, I found Evernote to be better and more accurate than Samsung Notes.

Both Evernote and Samsung Notes offer a rich text editor for taking and customizing notes.
Samsung Notes offers all the standard text editing options for creating notes. I like how Samsung has added more header styles to the text editor menu. Picture and sound recording and the ability to add sound files are in the upper right corner.
Evernote’s note editor is confusing. First you have to open the note, then choose to edit the note and then tap the ‘a’ icon in the menu above to display the editor.
The note editor is powerful. You can use Bold, Italic, Underline effects, add a checkbox, use highlighter, add numbers and make changes to the paragraph. Users can tap on clip icon and select Drive, Photo, Video file, Audio file etc. You can add files from anywhere. Evernote puts you at ease in these matters.
Drawing Capabilities
As expected, both Evernote and Samsung Notes offer basic drawing functions. However, Samsung Notes comfortably surpasses Evernote. In Samsung Notes, tap the Draw icon above and choose a tool from the various options.
You can use pen, pencil, highlighter tool and tons of color options. Galaxy Note users will love the drawing features of the Notes app with the S pen.
Evernote’s drawing menu is set to handwritten. It is a basic canvas with different pen colors and nib density.
Sharing Notes
Tap and hold any note in Samsung Notes and select Share. You can share the file in four formats. Users can share it as Samsung Notes file (.SDOC), PDF file, Image file or Text file.
Evernote lets you share a file directly via email. You can also invite others to join and make changes to the notebook. If your team or friends use Evernote, you will find Evernote hassle-free sharing better than Samsung Notes.
Features and Backup
Samsung Notes also provides a Lock option to protect the notes. Like Evernote, the Notes app offers a widget for browsing and annotating from the home screen. Samsung uses its own Samsung Cloud to sync and store note data.
Evernote provides basic reminder functionality. However, don’t expect to replace a dedicated task manager with Evernote. The company also offers a photo plugin that collects photos with handwriting or text.
As for backup, Evernote relies on cloud storage to store user notes and data.
Price
Evernote has revised its pricing model. The free version is limited to 60MB of note storage. For $70 per year, you can upgrade to the Pro plan and unlock all premium functionality.
Samsung Notes is completely free to use.
Start Note Taking
The final answer is simple. Evernote has better cross-platform usability, browser extension support, and features that are good enough to replace Samsung Notes.
