The latest Samsung devices come with two calendar apps – Google Calendar and Samsung’s built-in calendar. There is also Microsoft Outlook that integrates the calendar. All of these three different applications have different approaches. Even if you prefer a dedicated calendar app, the lack of integration with other apps can be annoying. Since Microsoft Outlook combines email and calendar, we compared it to Samsung Calendar to get a better idea of which app to choose.
Samsung gradually improves its Calendar features with each One UI update. You can also download the latest updates from the Galaxy App Store. Microsoft has taken a shortcut to improve the functionality of Outlook Calendar. The company bought the popular Sunrise Calendar and integrated the app with the Outlook Email app on Android and iPhone.
Cross-Platform Availability
As part of Microsoft’s “Cloud First, Mobile First” vision, the Outlook app is available on all platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and the Web. You enjoy the same UI across all platforms.
Samsung Calendar is limited to Galaxy devices only. You cannot use it on any other Android device either.

As with first-party Samsung apps, the default Calendar app looks and feels new. It works well even on phones with long screens. When you tap the hamburger menu at the top, you can view the Year, Month, Week and Day.
You’ll witness rounded corners in menus and sections throughout the Calendar UI that complements galaxy device corners.
If you’ve used Sunrise Calendar in the past, you’ll find yourself at home with Outlook. Fortunately, Microsoft hasn’t strayed too far from the core design.
Create New Event
Both apps cover the usual options for creating an event on the go. Tap the + icon in the lower right corner and you can create an event using Title, Date, Time, Notes, Location and more. You can also colorize an event for better visualization.
You can also add stickers to an event. For example, you can integrate a Cake sticker for a birthday event, a Beer sticker for a night party, or a Notes sticker for a writing test, and more. Samsung has even classified the tags into certain categories. Regular!
Microsoft Outlook allows you to add event title, invite contacts, date, time, location, description and more. We appreciate how Outlook presents the weather information to keep you informed about the weather prior to the event.
widgets
Samsung has an advantage over Outlook with widgets. Samsung’s calendar app lets you choose from three widget sizes: Countdown, List, and Monthly View. Most users choose the full-size Moon view that takes up the entire home screen.
Tap and hold the moon widget and you can customize the look using the background color and transparency option. Samsung also lets you add the widget to the Lock Screen. Activate the widget from Settings > Lock screen > Widget. You can now tap the clock icon on the lock screen and browse the information.
Outlook also offers several widgets. You can add the Calendar widget and jump directly to the Calendar section inside the app. Hopefully, the upcoming Android 12 update changes things for widgets.
Extra Features
Samsung Calendar allows you to enable week numbers and forecast details from the Settings menu. You can also lock the time and date of events to the time zone you choose. Tap the day and Samsung will reveal a card-based UI for navigating the day’s events.
Taking a page from Sunrise, Outlook has integrated a third-party TV and Sports calendar into the app. Tap the + icon in the hamburger menu and select Interesting Calendars; You can add Sports event schedules from NBA, Cricket, MLS, NFL and more. In addition, TV programs from different parts of the world can be added.
Outlook also lets you add social calendars from Facebook and Evernote.
Manage Your Busy Day
Both Outlook and Samsung Calendar are excellent Calendar apps. Samsung offers fun elements like better widgets, stickers and lets you view entries from the lock screen. It’s cross-platform available in Outlook, and the Sports calendar is a useful addition to the overall package. GT team always use to watch the latest Tennis tournament schedules.
